I've had a few inexplicable things happen to me in my life, but the creepiest has to be not long after my youngest brother left to flat share with a friend, and I was living alone in the family home (my dad having died there six months earlier). A couple of nights after he had moved out, I was in bed fast asleep when I was woken by the loud slamming of the front door (which I had double locked from the inside), and then heard footsteps along the corridor which stopped outside my bedroom door. Being the coward that I am, I pulled the blanket up over my head and almost stopped breathing altogether in the vain hope that whoever it was would go away. But I heard my bedroom door being pushed open and footsteps approach my bed - I swear I almost had a heart attack. At any second I thought whoever it was would pull the blanket off me and do god knows what! It was freezing cold, but I was too terrified to even shiver.
For what seemed an eternity, but was probably only a minute or two, I lay rigid under the blanket, afraid to move, and barely breathing - I could sense someone standing by my bed, then just as suddenly the sensation lifted and I just knew I was alone. True enough, when I plucked up the courage to peer over the blanket the room was empty and when I went into the hallway, the front door was still locked and bolted, and there were no windows open anywhere. I slept with a light on for months afterwards but my midnight visitor didn't pay me another visit thank goodness.
For about a year after this incident I kept finding pools of water in unlikely places, like the inside of a drawer, in a bookcase, and once inside my hi fi unit. Once I had hung a dress up ready to wear to work in the morning and when I woke up it was dripping wet. The water incidents were witnessed by others, and were totally inexplicable. I subsequently found out that water is supposedly a manifestation of spirit activity which did little to reassure me that the place was not haunted. I eventually moved out not longer after.
