They have to look at the bright side - they just got more public exposure and entertained more people (put aside those neutral or pained) than most entertainers could ever hope to.
If they are never seen on a stage again they can rest assured they got further than 99.9% of most would-be artists.

Well thats true but then again its also given them a taste of something theyll probably never achieve now.

That is really the downside to these things - its over for them. Permanently. Even though one may train for 3 years and be genuinely improved they will be forever 'done' as they were in Belle-Ami X-Factor from season whatever.

Sure, I do think of 7th place American Idol Jennifer Hudson - she went on to huge success and Academy Awards.
But then again she was a very very good singer.
