Here's Ofcom's rules
There must be ‘editorial justification’ for a product to be placed in a programme. That means the product must be relevant to what the programme is about. The content of programmes shouldn’t seem to be created or distorted, just to feature the placed products. Programmes also can’t promote placed products or give them too much prominence. So there shouldn’t be any claims made about how good a placed product is, or so many references to a product that it feels like it is being promoted. So we'll never get as bad as the US xD |

Basically it just allows shows to have props like this
![]() (also there will be a storyline in which Kevin wins on a lottery scratchcard) |

I've seen loads of branded products on soaps before though. Yesterday for example in the corner shop there was alsorts. I take it they would have been unpaid for props or something?

Aye, products have been in the show for years, but they've been bought in (rather than being paid to be placed)

Though the Corrie DVD's are a different story
Romanian Holdiay featured a scene where a Harvey's Store was prominently in the background, Roy used Jeyes Fluid to clean a grill, the woman who plays Janice in Benidorm was eating a pack of Walkers, and the BMW badge was shown at many points during the film Knight's Tale had this And many others, including Reg on a bingo site |

Oooooh just thought, speaking of the US, you know shows like American Idol - well when it's broadcast here they blur out the Coca Cola cups on the desk and brand names on peoples tops and stuff. Will that now be un-consored? Or being an American show but shown here do different rules apply?
I'm confusing myself now ![]() For example, if I watched American Idol this week would I read Coke or a blurry blob? ![]() |
