So guys... what do you think of your teams opening fixtures?

Hibs:

Celtic (h)
Inverness (a)

Newcastle:

Arsenal (h)
Sunderland (a)

Both tough starts but I cant wait!

Pretty glad you have got Celtic at home they beat you 3/3 times last season but you have got two quality players in already it will be a tough test for them, Hearts at home for us is tough as well but i think they'll be selling a lot of players over the summer and they'll be a totally different side then they were last season.

Newcastle have signed midfielder Sylvain Marveaux from French club Rennes on a five-year deal.

The 25-year-old left winger had also been linked with Liverpool but will complete a move to St James' Park for an undisclosed fee on 1 July.

Magpies boss Alan Pardew said: "It's a coup to have signed Sylvain, who has had interest from a number of clubs.

"He may not be well known to many of our fans, but he is a player we have been keeping an eye on for some time."

Marveaux is the third Frenchman recruited by Newcastle recently after Hatem Ben Arfa and Yohan Cabaye.

And confirmation of his capture comes a day after the Magpies signed Senegal international striker Demba Ba.

Marveaux will help to offset the loss of Newcastle skipper Kevin Nolan, who joined West Ham on Thursday.

Yep, start of the season is the time to get these games as well as this is when the Old Firm can be a bit rusty.

You's should beat Hearts.

Yep, good few days in the transfer market for us.

Pardew seems to be very fond of the French league, hope we can maybe bring in a bit of talent from the UK as well though, hope we make an offer for Snodgrass.

I just hope jf that Macleish does for Aston Villa what he did for Birmingham last season. Which is extremely little indeed, Good riddance to him.

He won them the Carling cup if Birmingham had stayed up it would have been on their most successful seasons ever.. there is only so much you could do with an average team though he did well to beat Arsenal in the final

I agree with much of that Novo, the Carling cup win should have inspired him to get more points in the bag, he however kept rambling on about only needing around 40 points to be safe in the Premier league, but he failed to get there.

He had injuries to deal with, true, but really even the last game at Tottenham,Birmingham played pretty good but it was his direction as to the format they played in which clearly hadn't been successful for many months overall.

That was where he failed the team and club,he would not change anything, I guess like myself to a degree,he couldn't see them not at least winning one of their last 2 home games so he just left things to roll on.
The rest is history but I feel he concentrated on just getting that last point or 2 he needed and wasn't prepared to open up the game more for his Players.

The players are the ones on the pitch, that's true but they can only do so much when rigidly forced to do so on a playing format that clearly was their Managers instruction but was one which hadn't been successful enough and was not likely to be. McLeish failed very badly to even try to address that problem.

I think the players let Mcleish down more then anything, he took Birmingham to their highest position in over 50 years, He took us into the last 16 of the champions league before he went to Birmingham we only lost out on the last 8 on away goals his managing ability is unquestionable okay his domestic form isn't great but his cup form is outstanding, the players should have thought harder for the top flight status towards the end of the season they obviously didn't want it as much as the likes of Wolves, they were victims of their own success after the carling cup victory maybe.

I wish him all the best at Aston Villa.. i think he's a decent guy and a good manager when he has the right players to work with Villa are a much bigger club then Birmingham he's more suited there.

Mcleish isn't my cup of tea as a manager, even with limited resources you can at least experiment with playing formats, other teams knew the likely format he would force Birmingham to play and also they would see it hadn't been successful.

As I say he isn't my cup of tea as a manager but you clearly like him and admire his management ways so I duly respect that.

Good News that Newcastle have signed Marveaux, he looked certain to sign for Liverpool at one point.

So Modric will probably end up going to Chelsea then? Despite Levy's statement all the player would have to do is hand in a transfer request and a very high bid would be too good for Spurs to turn down.

Looks like United will hopefully go all out for Sneijder, we need to sign some centre midfielders. Liverpool are welcome to Adam.

Just realized that the league starts on my birthday this year, 2nd time this has happened in about the last 5 years.

Pretty good start to the season for us, and we've got a fairly easy run into the last few games.

Liverpool don't need any more midfielders though IMO now, you guys should be on the lookout for defenders and attackers. Looks like Doni might sign as back up for Reina anyway.

Doni isn't signing, his wage demands were too high.

And we need at least two more wingers.

According to the BBC sport website, Tomer Hemed has rejected a contract with Rangers in favour of a move to Real Mallorca.

The report states that the lure of playing against Barcelona and Real Madrid was too strong.

What a disgusting horrible bastard it's time to make our move for Ngog

Strong rumours that N'Zogbia has almost finalised a deal with Newcastle.

Would be another good signing for us!
