I'd rather opt to call them naive - they've never experienced this before. I do however think they should have avoided the publicity until they got their heads around it all...and when it had sunk in, then made a decision on whether to go public - when they have grasped how this would change their lives.
Shame but it was a certainty to happen. As long as they are able to not let it 'get to them' - they have a lot of adjustment to do.
