Well first of all, the expected reaction would be one of sheer and utter surprise..... then I'd say thinking "hell, what does he mean", then getting upset.

The way she said - IIRC without watching again, didn't she say "I love my dad"..... that seemed a very out of place thing to say. Most folk would have been thinking "What's he doing...and why?"

I'd have said the natural reaction would have been surprise / shock / then wondering what I'd done for him to do that.

To suddenly start blubbering....... that smacked of something not quite right.
