Soaps rarely change channel, timeslot or cast though. And the long BB goes the more typical the characters end up being and everyone knows what to expect.
Voting out the 'big characters' at the start shouldn't influence the rating that much if the producers are doing a good job. They need to add in more drama and shake things up. Opening up the votes to conversation last week did that.

But, just like a soap, BB only recently changed channel, stayed in the mid-evening timeslot and, as you say, "the more typical the characters end up being" .....
