He walked out of the stranded task 1) because Anton had agreed to save him, so he could go and get painkillers 2) because Jem was going to walk out anyway as she was upset over BB revealing her real age, and 3) to stop Anton getting one over on him and Faye.

Yes 3 is quite selfish, but as Jem was going anyway because of BB purposely upsetting her, there would have been no point staying in there.

That said, if you believe the edit over piecing together the longer FB vids, you would have the opinion I quoted
