No it wouldn't. Even with tax it's a filth cheap crop to produce. How many people do you know who buy bootleg booze off the back of trucks because it's cheaper? Largely it just doesn't happen. People will pay for a clean, consistent source of weed. After all they're willing to pay for contaminated, inconsistent weed with an added mark up price by greedy, unscrupulous dealers.

It wouldn't be government produced bud sold in Tesco anyway. I can see it being decriminalised as opposed to legalised. It's a question of when not if. It will more than likely work like it does in Amsterdam, California etc with shops and dispensaries being allowed to sell a self grown supply.

Regular smokers with the time and space would probably opt to grow it of course.
