She pretended she was going to as a joke to try and get him to laugh to break the tension between them but he didn't get it.
Like Denise said he doesn't "get" her or her sense of humour. So, when she was joking about him going into the diary room for 12 hours whinging he took it as an attack.
She's very outgoing and Michael is very quiet and so her attempts to try and bring him out of his shell were taken the wrong way.
It's just a huge clash of personalities.
