For those that have been or are currently there, describe what you remember of your first year. I'll write about mine in a bit, I just need to remember some of it.

Meh it's alright, I think it's overhyped though and I'd say I enjoyed my last year of sixth form more than I have my first year of Uni

When I first started, we were going out close to every other day. Now it's alot less as we are getting abit more work to do.

Looking forward to about April onwards though when the weather is nicer, alot more possibilities then.

The first two months or so were amazing - I had loads of money to play with and literally went our like 3+ times a week.

Freshers week was the best by far - a different-themed night each night, and went out with the flatmates until we made our separate friends. We ended up at randomers' houses (that didn't even go to uni) and everything was a blur of sweat and music.

Then met our neighbours (who we previously assumed were boring because they got a takeaway one night instead of coming out) and had a couple of house parties, and we all became good friends.
But then one of next door decided to drop out which I was a bit gutted about because she was one of my favourite people I'd met, and she'd confided in me all of this personal stuff and we had a good bond. There were quite a few birthdays early on as well.

Anyway then I began to run out of money and the honeymoon period was over, and a few of us had a few small arguments... but we're still largely good friends, and since we're in independent housing and miles away from campus we're a little bit excluded from Uni-life really, but the plus side (and it's a massive plus-side) is that we're in the middle of a city and 5mins away from all the clubs. Drinks are cheap (Ł1 pints/jagerbombs Mondays <3) and there's a good variety of clubs.











Oh and studying is sooo hard obviously x

We didn't have clubs near us, we instead had fields and a derelict barn that we had outside raves, acoustic nights and fires at. Amazing times. During the summer were the best months of first year, Devon is an amazing place to be then, especially as a student.

The only difference between my first year at uni and any other year of my life is that I used to smoke pot almost everyday.

But you don't start paying it back until you're earning over 21k. And by that time, you're probably doing alright.

Oh God, yeah. I don't think I've ever taken more drugs than in my first year. I was wasted pretty much everyday on something. I don't think I could handle that again to be honest.

You don't have to go to uni or get a degree. It's not the only option.

You dont have to go out and get drunk to be a student, i didn't. I say go for it!

I went to a state school and managed to get into Cambridge. It was kind of scary and I was a little bit over-awed by it at first. I was surrounded by people from privileged backgrounds who'd been to private school and the first year I felt like the cockney charwoman who was too low down the pecking order to mix with the others. Turned out it was in my head and once I came to terms with the fact that I deserved to be there I chilled out, got on with everyone else and really enjoyed it. It was hard work, so much to remember, I worked really hard the first year and hardly went out at all. I mellowed though...

My initial nerves went away in like 2 days, I felt so comfortable in my halls of residence and my housemates were great. I loved moving away from home (though my mum didn't ) and I only felt sad for a few hours! The nights out were really scary for me initially because I didn't go out much before uni, but it was really fun and very cheap! I love love loved the finance situation, the loans seemed ridiculously BIG considering the low paid job I had before I went to uni. I had such a great first year; it went so quickly and the academic side of things weren't that difficult (I had 3 day weeks) and a 4 day weekend. Was amazing. No fear, no worries, just enjoyed my time and I always remember it being sunny and just had so much fun with my housemates.

I miss it so much now I'm in my 4th year, it majorly sucks now.

I was the opposite Livia. I mellowed far too easily in the first year, and had to reign myself back in and recompose myself. I do come from a privileged background and I still had the same concerns about trying to fit in. Turns out I didn't need to worry either, once I found my feet and identity the paths branched out for me.
