Well you can understand why some young people may get confused then, there really shouldn't be a you can/you cant approach...its crazy and can only hinder integration.

I agree with this actually. Racism is treating people differently because of their colour. So in essence saying only certain colour people can say a certain word...otherwise its racist and wrong, is racism in itself.

And yes, of course it will confuse some young people.

It's not though. It's acknowledging that white people treated black people abhorrently for much of recorded history, and we created a booming trade in the trafficking and enslaving of black people. A symbol of those times was the word ******.

It's quite right, that we should be respectful enough of the way white/black history is entwined, to voluntarily not have that word in our vocabulary. It's also quite right, that black culture be allowed to "reclaim" that word, and use for themselves for the next couple of hundred years.

If we, as white people even forbid black people to use the word, then we put ourselves back in a position of master, dictating what black people can or can't say. It should be the sole choice of the black community whether/how they use that word.

The shame is ours, not theirs.

Funny. I dont remember enslaving any black people. So no, I have no shame about that tbh, I cant help what people who lived hundreds of years before me did.

I do get what you are saying, but this whole 'reclaiming the word' stuff is nonsense to me. If the word has so much stigma attached to it, why would ANYONE want to say it, ever? I just dont get it.

Now, I would never personally say n*****. I just have no reason to ever say it. But I still do not, and never will think its right, for anything to be decided/different based on what colour you are.

Just chipping in my opinion, but seeing the word 'Niglets' did make me chuckle as I have never seen it before. Does not mean I will be using that word, nor would I condone a white person using it. But I have no issue with black people using to talk about other black people.

That would be me funnily enough. I dont really use it as much as most of my friends but I would be allowed to use it yeah. Especially if it is your father who is black but it's the same either way.

JF and Kizzy. I have never seen a black person say it is cool for their White friend to use the word.

The only possible exception is if yOu was all in a car rapping along to a tune, but even then my White friends usually leave the word out.
