My great nan and grandad were both racist in my view, they lived in Birmingham and at the time lots of immigrants were making their homes there, they had coloured neighbours and mom said they used to be terrified of them as they could hear them killing chickens etc, anyway to cut a long story short, they got burgled and their beloved dog was killed,no one was caught for it but in their minds it was due to 'those people' they upped and left the city, luckily my mom had different views, myself i think there is good and bad in all no matter what colour,I think older people were brought up more racist, younger people on the whole seem more indifferent about it.I think it is the same with sexual orientation aswell.

Old people or not some rightly want to retain their "own" culture. Just as immigrants want to retain their culture. It seems a person born in a country wanting to retain their own heritage is somehow a "racist" but an imigrant rejecting the culture of the host country is not a racist........How strange the way people analyze life.......

Standing up for ones own way of life is not racist. Racist is when people hate someone just because they are of a different race or colour and no other reason....
Great post

Well, racism was very, very, very rife up until 15 or so years ago (?), so they'd have been brainwashed with the idiotic belief that the amount of pigment in your skin determines who you are as a person...

Some of my family came here after the war as refugees. They arrived with nothing and were helped by the local community in east London to settle down to a normal life after surviving nazi death camps. The people who helped them and were kind to them had just fought a war against fascism that has seen them live in hardship for years. Race and creed didn't seem much to them. This is more or less the generation we're discussing here. Not all elderly people are bigots and racists.
