Unlike d!ckhead or pr!ck, redneck has a specific group of people it is referring to. Just like if the Queen was against gay marriage would you refer to her as a redneck? No, because it wouldn't apply. The term "redneck" doesn't refer to 1 particular individuals behaviour at all.

It's like saying the term yankee refers to a particular type of American. It doesn't, it refers to an American in general.

well, actually Yankee does specifically refer to Americans in the New England(north eastern) region, but i guess it's different in the British vernacular....

That's not the point though. The point is I couldn't then use the word "yankee" and say it's an insult I'm directing at an American person for doing something I don't like or agree with. As you said, it refers to a specific person in a specific area of the country. Same goes for "redneck".

Oh ffs why dont you both just ****!

For the bazzilionth time my intention wasnt to discriminate against any kind of minority or community but theres allways the pc crew who have to correct and turn an important issue into something completley off topic.

We all agree that this video deserves acknowledgment so we can all as human being have equal rights (apart from InOne who doesnt seem to care so why he/she came into the thread is beyond me).

And in regards to The Queen comment i would call her a redneck as its a phrase i use in everyday life. Thats all im saying on that matter now coz its getting petty and taking away the importance of the video as a message.

So like i said share the video on Twitter/facebook ect to show your support.

Calm down, love. It's not about being PC. It's about you taking a word and acting as though it means whatever you want it to mean when it doesn't.

Your answer to my question about the Queen shows you haven't a clue what the word actually means anyway. But by all means carry on with your "Woe for the gays" when it's been pointed out that the same may have very well happened with a heterosexual couple too.

In recent decades, the term redneck has expanded its meaning to refer to bigoted, loutish reactionaries who are opposed to modern ways as ive said in a previous post.

Words change throughout time ie: Gay going from happy to homosexual.

This is how i would describe this guys parents as Bigots who wouldnt accept their son was gay and discriminated against his boyfriend by threatening him with violence, refusing him to see the body and not allowing him to attend the funeral.

Like i said in a previous post im not playing the gay card and believe all of us as human deserve the same rights.

There you go "Love".

And it's up to you to judge based on one overly sentimental youtube video played with a stock "sad" piano melody? Ok then...

Your now just mocking me as it seems you've run out of things to say.

If you dont agree that this video needs to be spread to get a message accross about long term partners having rights then thats your issue but i think the video has a very strong message which will make people stand up and think.

Resorting to just chatting about the background music in the edit is just pathetic.

I'm not mocking you, I'm giving you my opinion. Making such strong judgements based on that video is a little strange to me.

And the "music" was an apt comment I think. Who, in whatever emotional mindset, creates a youtube video like that complete with sad music trying to get attention. It baffles me.

Ok then, im sure 99% of people would agree that this video raises an important issue about long term couples having the same rights but for some reason you seem to be more concerned talking about the edit and the true origins of words.

Im over explaining my point now as i know i'm right in regards to that.

Thats all i have to say, go and bore someone else with your pointless attempts to bicker with forum members.

BIB 1: Think whatever you want, doesn't make it 'right'.

BIB 2: I'm afraid you're the one who started with the insults. But, yes, I won't bother with your "woe for the gays" threads in future.

So you're accusing me of starting threads specifically aimed at gay people being misfortunate, afflicted or victims?

Thats not what im about so be carefull what you say cause your on the verge of homophobia there.

he wasn't mocking you. He honestly wants you to understand his point of view. Please don't use words like homophobia when they are not appropriate. i know what homophobia is and looks like, he is not being homophobic.

Using the word homophobic when it's not appropriate degrades the word and degrades the struggle.

Yes, that's right my views on this soppy video have exposed my homophobia.
It's that kind of attitude to it that I was referring to.

Yes i understand his point of view but he is not trying to understand mine.

Im making the point that the parents are bigots/homophobic because they didnt accept their son being gay, stopped his bf going to the funeral and threatened him with physical violence.

You dont realise that redneck can also mean bigot or someone who doesnt agree with modern views on such subjects so im correct in saying that yet constantly kept getting message after message telling me im wrong lol.

This is not what the thread was supposed to be about so i reckon we should all just move on and stick to the real issue.

If you found it insulting in a homophobic way then I apologise.

However, "woe is me" is in general how I refer to this kind of thing.

So exactly the same as me refferring redneck to describe a bigot/homophobic which can be used in that context.

Just killed your credibility.

And yeah you did offend.

this thread is a bout a specific video, let's stick to this video. you cannot make any generalizations about anyone based on this 1 video. Losing a partner is tragic,m but this person does not speak for me as a gay man any more than he speaks for all white people as he is white.

We all mourn the loss of Tom.

Completely unrelated. How on earth has that got anything to do with it. Using "redneck" in the wrong context versus using a quote "woe is me" in a the correct context. Hmmm.

If I'd used the word "red" to describe an "orange" you may have a point.

You claimed to make this thread in support of gay equality, i havn't heard anyone here disagree with that principle.
