The reason I say that. "Was it stupid of them to not realize they were being conned over voltages".Is.It was obvious.Because Endemol and BB could not for legal reason have allowed the rats to receive such large voltages and they'd avoid it also because if someone suffered badly as a result the show would get bad publicity, so how come they didn't guess at that when it's so obvious Endemol and BB wouldn't dare do it.

Also, it was similar to another very famous experiment, so I was surprised Teacher Benedict did not recognize it.

Maybe they did realise, but put in a situation like that, you have to make a judgement. It always makes me smile when people not actually involved talk about how obvious it was. It might have been a different situation if you were actually in there pushing the button. And you'd be surprised what they can do on TV and keep within the law, especially when people have signed a contract that you haven't seen.

![]() Yes but it reminded me that there is a famous test that is done to test how far the scientists themselves will go in delivering shocks, designed to test their basic humanity and whether they have some psychological disorder. |

Perhaps they didn't realise. Perhaps they signed a contract with the same clauses in that the others did... agreeing to undergo certain tasks that could be uncomfortable but would not risk permanent injury or death? It's a bit smug to sit in your armchair and say what you would have done. |

Get it? Got it? Good!

I don't think they were stupid, they may not be sure of how many volts is seriously dangerous, I know I don't...

I thought the rats did great, and unless you are an electrician, in a situation like that how would you know what voltage equates to what, if they knew then they are all very good actors....I really enjoyed that task... and I assume they would rely on BB to do the health and safety thing.

Was gonna say that, it's one of the most known experiments there is.

Maybe they knew what was going on and played along with it knowing it was a task?

yeah, have to say im surprised no one reaslised - especially in this crazy Health & Safety world where conkers are deemed dangerous.
Embarrassingly I think I would have failed the task, as I dont think I would have stopped ![]() |

Yep, Benedict had surely heard of that experiment, I think he did and just pretended he didn't. He was the first one to say we should stop

All of you who have studied the Milgram experiment will probably know that none of the participants in the original experiment cottoned on to the fact that there was no electrocution taking place. It's hard to react to something like this... you don't want to believe that it's real, but the reactions of the housemates being "electrocuted" were very convincing, I thought.

I studied it too, it's to test conformity. I guessed it was a task on the scientists, as it is in the original experiment on the administers of the shock.
They were really good at acting shocked though! great task ![]()
