Default 'X Factor' is an insult to people's intelligence, says 'Strictly' Craig...

Strictly Come Dancing judge Craig Revel Horwood has told Digital Spy that he believes viewers are switching off from X Factor because they have "seen through" the Simon Cowell reality show.

Strictly has regularly been beating X Factor in this year's Saturday night ratings war and has even surpassed it on Sunday nights for the first time in the show's history. According to Horwood, this is because viewers prefer the "family entertainment" that Strictly offers.

"I think people have just seen through the X Factor format these days," Horwood told Digital Spy.

"I think it's an insult to one's intelligence. Strictly isn't like that.

"Strictly is family entertainment that all generations can watch at the same time. In an age when people only communicate with mobile phones and on the internet, we're a show that brings everyone together. Strictly transcends all audiences."

The reality TV judge continued: "We've got a classier production. It's fantastic family entertainment that all four generations can watch. From little kids, to mum and dads, grandparents and even great grandparents. It's something worth encouraging - it's a brilliant spend of the licence fee."

He joked: "We've also actually got celebrities who can dance this year - I'm loving it. It's a joy to not only record and do live, but also to just watch."

Strictly Come Dancing continues on Saturday (November 3) at 6.30pm on BBC One.

He's right though. It is "classier", not necessarily classy, but classier than Crap Factor.

Whether you like X Factor or not, think it's trash TV or not, however you view it - it is well produced. From editing to staging, the whole thing is very slick and has high quality levels of production. That's not to say the show itself is high quality, but the production is.

And in comparison to Strictly it's like comparing a roast dinner to a pile of steaming sh*t. It's poorly produced.

XF has it's pros and cons, although I have watched SCD for a few years and yes it prides itself on it's class, but trust me there is a lot of hidden bitchiness with that show behind the scenes, sometimes in public e.g. John Sargeant scandal or scripted for the show.

Some fans are constantly moaning or wanting people they do not like to be fired by the BBC.

It pisses me off how the BBC still think that they can fool viewers into thinking their Sunday show is live when it has NOT been for ages now, they film it directly after the Saturday show and the result is always published on the net, the bookies then remove the person who goes at midnight from their odds.

It has only ever been about making Simon Cowell richer and more famous. As long as he can find someone commercial enough to sell records (never mind genuine talent) and make him pots of money, not to mention all the money he makes from the mugs making the phone calls (including me, but only very occasionally), it will continue with all the over-the-top music and light shows.

It's no coincidence that the boy bands put together on the show, usually do well. As long as there is an audience for that type of thing, it will go on, and on and on ...

The show blatantly acts as a vehicle to promote certain well-known artists, often those acting as judges on the show, whilst truly talented people who are often better than some of the judges ever were, disappear without trace. One of the most shallow shows on tv.

Ballroom dancing or pop music, which has the greatest public interest? Hmm...

When Strictly stops using licence fee money to pay has-beens to dance for a few weeks, and actually produce a show that's interesting to me - I may be biased though since I see no merit whatsoever in doing, let alone watching, a pasa doble or whatever - I might jump ship. A predictable, tacky car-crash > a polished turd

I don't even understand why people watch strictly?! Granted, I've never watched it... but I'm fairly positive its utter crap.

Yep, I think he makes some very good points also. A bit of snobbery there, but hey, I like Craig, so will overlook that

He's completely right about the X Factor. It's a complete load of ****e every year and it rarely manages to churn out a singer/group that's relevant for more than a few months. And prior to that happening you get the 4 months of ridiculously over produced and samey shows.

That said, Strictly is equally terrible. It's awfully dull and I've never understood the appeal.
