His celebrity days are probably now over. It's guilt by association and it's terribly unjust but it happens all the time.

The more he fights to clear his name the more people will connect his name with Jimmy Savile.

He always did come across as rather 'slimy', an image he seemed to revel in. So I guess he can't complain too loudly if that image has come back to take a massive bite out of his rather arrogant rear end.

Shagpile carpets, damp, and dark wood panelling - these pictures show that Jimmy Savile refused to spend a penny on the upkeep of his Leeds penthouse flat where he lived for more than 30 years.

Photographs show the 1970s style of the three-bedroom apartment, with soap on a rope in the style of the once-coveted Jim'll Fix It badges draped over the taps of its avocado bathroom suite.

Savile was found dead at the property on October 29 last year, two days short of his 85th birthday. It is packed with photographs and mementos including gold discs and posters from when he used to wrestle at halls around the country.

The flat was put on the market for £325,000, with the proceeds intended for the Jimmy Savile Charitable Trust.

But estate agents say potential buyers can expect to spend £400,000 on redeveloping the apartment to rid it of the dated decor.

These pictures show that Savile was too tight to spend money updating the property, which he bought - along with its contents - in the late 1970s.

The gaudy pink and black kitchen was without an oven or hob, as Savile preferred to dine in restaurants rather than cook for himself.

The BBC, four other public institutions and Jimmy Savile's estate are facing at least 50 potential damages claims from alleged victims of sex abuse by the late Jim'll Fix It presenter.

Liz Dux, a partner at law firm Russell Jones & Walker in London and an expert in personal injury and child abuse cases, revealed that she is in contact with 30 alleged victims and the number has almost doubled in the last week.

She added that damages payments in such cases could range from a few thousand pounds for those who suffered a minor assault and got on with their lives to hundreds of thousands if their lives were judged to have been wrecked, for example if they had been unable to have a career or form relationships.

Up to 20 other people have made contact with Alan Collins, the solicitor who represented victims the Jersey child abuse scandal.

Collins, of law firm Pannone, said the BBC and the Savile estate should consider opening a compensation fund to deal with the flood of claims.

"You've got the makings of a group action already but how official that becomes depends on the attitude of the BBC and the estate," he told the Guardian.

"So far all the abuse happened in the UK in a wide variety of circumstances. Savile was an opportunist, he was a risk-taker, it [the abuse] seems to have happened very quickly. He seems to have an eye for taking advantage of an opportunity."

Mr Starr was released on police bail between 1am and 1.30am this morning, but later returned for further questioning.

His fiancee, Sophie Lea, 34, was seen driving the couple's silver Audi away from their home in Warwickshire at 12.45pm today with a "large bulge" on the back seat covered in a blanket.

Freddie Starr has been released on bail for a second time after further questioning by police investigating the Jimmy Savile sexual abuse scandal.

Mr Starr, 69, returned to speak to officers after being bailed in the early hours of Friday. The Metropolitan Police said he had been re-bailed to a date in December.

In 1991 Jimmy Savile gave a chilling interview that left BBC psychiatrist Anthony Clare with concerns about the then beloved broadcaster.

Throughout Savile refuses to allow Dr Clare through his facade; denying having any emotions, using patter and concocted stories to distract from awkward questions.

Clare notes that if Savile does have feelings he is "unable or unwilling" to express them concluding: "There is something chilling about this 20th-century "saint" which still intrigues me to this day."

When asked by Dr Clare about his freedom from emotional attachments to people Savile boasted "I'm not constrained pretty well by anything".

"The tough thing in life is ultimate freedom, that's when the battle starts. Ultimate freedom is what it's all about, because you've got to be very strong to stand for ultimate freedom.

"Ultimate freedom is the big challenge, now I've got it, and I can tell you there's not many of us that have got ultimate freedom. I've got some considerable clout as well, all over. That is where the battle, the personal battle starts now."

"I've managed to handle complete and ultimate utter freedom. It's marvellous but it's dangerous.

"It would be easy to be corrupted by many things, when you've got ultimate freedom, especially when you've got clout. I could be corrupted."

He goes on to boast he has "all the money that was ever printed" and as such can do what he wants when he wants, stating "it is all too much".

Savile explained how he never sleeps in the same place two nights in a row and carries a shoulder bag that has not been completely unpacked for "nearly 30 years".

His obsession with making money was questioned, with Savile revealing an odd motive for always keeping a new car in the driveway. Knowing what we now know, it seems he prepared to be ready to "escape", to go on the run.

"I can go skint in a day. I can be finished like that. If a scandal comes up or something like that or the people go off you, you're finished. I'd much rather go skint with a brand new Rolls Royce in the garage than one that's eight years old that I love, because I'll get more for it.

"So the day that I get finished by some whatever, then the bits and pieces that I've got I'll make sure that they're all paid up and they're all brand new because I could then go and be very unhappy in the south of France, covered in shame and sunshine and mad birds with bikinis on for a long time because there was a new Rolls Royce there and a new this and a new that.

"So I am all terribly logical which is actually bad news for you guys, because common sense and logic don't leave you with a lot to find out."

"I've got the freedom to do pretty well anything now including being bored, or being alone or being with people or getting things, I suppose if I didn't have that I would only see that as a temporary setback because somewhere my inventiveness is such that if I had everything taken away from me now it wouldn't be long before I got it back again.

Throughout the interview Savile refuses to open up about his feelings and goes to great pains to claim he has no skeletons in his closet: "I mean I don't go away from here and indulge in some wild fetishes or wild weirdo things or anything like that.

"If you turned my stone over there ain't nothing underneath it. It's probably a boring stone for somebody like you who wants to find things out about people. What you're seeing is actually what there is full stop.

He also openly confesses "I'm dishonest in inverted commas insofar as I'm a ducker and diver and if I see an opportunity of getting something by only going halfway round the course I'll do it".
