What, so you'd have to take overpriced smoking lessons, then an expensive practical and theory test on them?

It would be hell to actually enforce it I think. It just sounds like an expensive waste of time to me, someone will only quit if they want to quit, not if you force them to.

Absolutely, I quit when they hit £6.50 a packet and it was costing me more to smoke than eat every week!

Thats ridiculous, why dont they start penalising fast food for fat people? Will the limit apply to rolling tobacco as well?

Cigarette smoking should be banned - nicotine should be a Class A drug :

Quote:
Class A Drugs
(includes ecstasy, LSD, heroin, morphine, cocaine, methadone.)

Possession - Up to 7 years imprisonment or an unlimited fine or both.

Production or Supply - Up to life imprisonment or an unlimited fine or both.

I fail to see how you quoting a list of Class A drugs supports that argument

It's not an argument - it's a point of view.

Cigs are so expensive .. patches, counselling and advice of all kinds is available on the NHS now which is great. I managed to stop but it was hell, it was because of the risk of passive smoking that did it for me.
If it wasn't for them meddling kids....

I agree with those saying that this law would be ridiculous. It's a person's choice if they want to smoke or not.

Meanwhile the government will be charging £100 per packet and reaping all the benefits, while still insisting that they want everyone to stop for the good of their health

There is no benefit to smoking. It is totally unnecessary. If people are going to do it I don't see why the government shouldn't at least try to get money out of the scum that do it.

No one's scum for smoking, Charlie. You can't just make generalisations about people because you don't approve of their lifestyle.

That is literally how the world works?

I believe that anyone who smokes has no respect for themselves as a person or their body. Therefore scum because they're treating themselves like a pile of rubbish.

Of course the government is entitled to exploit those who smoke. What I dont agree with is them pretending they care about the health benefits of stopping smoking and using that to justify the high prices rather than just being honest and saying they are doing it because people will pay that amount as they are addicted, when in reality they would be up **** creek without smokers. Tax on everything else would have to rise a LOT if everyone stopped. And carehomes etc would be absolutely bursting at the seams once all these smokers stopped dying early

God bless the baccy man who still sells for £3 tbh

You could say that about anyone who drinks alcohol or eats unhealthy food, or doesnt excercise though too.

Then again, you probably do so this point is likely moot

I imagine that applies to other aspects of lifestyle, then?

I somewhat agree with that. I personally they do it for a mixture of both reasons though yea they could be more forthright about the pure money side, though I don't really see what difference it makes.
