It is a disgrace that a powerful communist country has taken the worst excesses of Capitalist doctrine to propel itself to the top of the table of nations at the expense of its poorly paid labour market. It's a disgrace that Chinese workers are among the worst exploited and lowest paid workers in the world.

However to try and appeal to the populations of other countries to stop buying cheap goods from China is in my opinion wishful thinking. Hard pressed shoppers battling through one of the worst recessions in decades are not in a position to take this high moral stance, they are trying to survive like the rest of us.

Changes to Chinese labour laws must come from the Chinese themselves coupled with pressure from WTO, World Bank, IMF, UN and other Global institutions. Simply picketing stores that sell Chinese made products in the forlorn hope that shoppers will shop elsewhere and pay higher prices is not really the answer.
