So much wrong, in so little space. The conservatives aren't being cruel to be kind, they're being the ideologues they always are in power.
When the economy is struggling, do you know which group of people spend every penny they get on food, clothes, heating, local businesses? That's right, the poor. When you take money from them, you take money from all of the shops that rely on their custom to make ends meat themselves. In recession, the wealthiest people become more prudent and save more (because they can).
You can't build anything from the top, down, yet conservatives believe that less burden on the top means everything trickles down, but this thinking is so out dated, and so demonstrably wrong that it's laughable. Labour are not responsible for the world economy going to ****. Labour were, however, responsible for not paying down our debt when times were good, but we were taken into wars illegally, that had to be paid for.
You build the economy bottom up, people at the bottom have to have money in order to create the next level - the middle class. The wealthiest in society are either not paying their fair share, or have been able to find legal methods of accounting to avoid paying anything. How many £50-100/wk do you need to take from people to make up for the 10's of millions in corporate tax that isn't being paid?
The poor are unable to contribute money to campaigns, and offer non-executive directorships of 6 figure salaries to turn up at a board meeting once a year, so they are demonised by everyone. It's sickening.
What is the logical conclusion of pushing families further into poverty? How does that benefit anyone on this island? Lets create ghetto's and poorhouses all over again, where single parent families have to fight it out hunger games style for an interview for a £14k/yr job.
There isn't a party that represents my political beliefs, as there is no left in this country. Yet most people, when the questions are phrased correctly to them, have far more in common with socialism than conservatism, but the conservatives have a better messaging machine.
I'd like to see a tabloid go after rich tax avoiders day after day, the way they do with single mothers. I grew up in a healthy, loving, 2 parent family. And I hope to provide that for my future children, some day. I feel more responsibility towards those that don't have what I had, not less. If we can't treat the least amongst us with dignity, then we're all ****ed.
