Thumbs down Oscar Pistorius's bail restrictions eased

http://www.ndtv.com/article/world/os...s-eased-347714

Quote:
Judge Bert Bam also ruled in favor of Pistorius on three other conditions.
  1. He no longer has to be regularly supervised by a probation official
  2. A ban against him drinking alcohol was lifted.
  3. Bam also slammed one of the bail conditions imposed by another judge, saying that a condition that he would be in breach of his bail if he was accused of another crime against women was "fraud." It went against Pistorius' constitutional right to be innocent until proven guilty, and being accused of a crime should not count against him, Bam said in a ruling that came three hours after the hearing began.
Another two restrictions should be disregarded, the judge said.
  1. That he was not allowed to return to his house, where he shot Steenkamp dead on Feb. 14
  2. That had to report regularly to a police station

It meant Pistorius' legal team succeeded in all its appeals. Pistorius' lawyers smiled after the judge ruled in their favor.

Pistorius' next court appearance is June 4, when the prosecution would aim to serve indictments, chief prosecutor Gerrie Nel told the court. Nel said there is a possibility that Pistorius' trial will begin by the end of the year.
They'll be returning the bail bond with interest next .....

Thumbs down Oscar Pistorius to consider World Championships

http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/disability-sport/21967852

Quote:
Oscar Pistorius might consider competing at this year's World Athletics Championships in Moscow, his agent has told the Associated Press.

The 26-year-old athlete, who has run at both the Olympics and Paralympics, is charged with murdering his girlfriend but will be allowed to travel abroad after challenging his bail terms.

"If he is up for it and qualifies, the World Championships will definitely be on the radar," Peet van Zyl told AP.

The event will be held in August.

The International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF), which is the body responsible for the World Championships, told BBC Sport he would be "free to run" in Moscow in August on the "basis of the 'innocent until proven guilty' principle".

However, Nova, who organise the Manchester City Games, to be held on 25 May and which Pistorius pulled out of, said there were "no plans to invite him over".

The International Paralympic Committee told BBC Sport it would discuss the matter of Pistorius competing again following the Easter break.
Erm, Pistorius is NOT "innocent" - he has admitted shooting his girlfriend several times and killing her - the pending court case is only to establish whether it was an "accident" or whether he meant to .....

Arrow Oscar Pistorius faces athletics snub after bail conditions relaxed

http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2013...ail-conditions

Quote:
The sporting world seemed poised to give the cold shoulder to Oscar Pistorius after a court in South Africa allowed the Olympic and Paralympic star to return to international competition.

Organisers of major athletics meetings now face a dilemma over whether to invite the 26-year-old to race. Many privately admit that they are reluctant to welcome Pistorius, who is awaiting trial for the murder of his girlfriend, Reeva Steenkamp, at his home last month.

British Athletics declined to comment on the issue, but sources close to the governing body say Pistorius is unlikely to receive an invitation to run at the London Anniversary Games, to be held in the Olympic Stadium on 27 July, or at the Birmingham Grand Prix on 30 June.

The official line from the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF), the sport's governing body, is that it will not dictate to meeting organisers which athletes they invite to their events. But it is believed that any organisers who do invite Pistorius will risk incurring the wrath of the authorities, who fear an onslaught of negative publicity for the sport.
Headlines like "Pistorius - Killer On The Run" would certainly be negative .....

Thumbs down 'Oscar Pistorius is not a criminal' - Uncle Arnold

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-africa-21972831

Quote:
The uncle of the South African sprinter Oscar Pistorius has defended his nephew, after the Paralympic star won concessions in his bail conditions over the shooting of his girlfriend, Reeva Steencamp.

In a television interview, Arnold Pistorius said that his nephew did not want to go out in public "because he is not ready."

"He doesn't want to be treated as a criminal because he is not a criminal. He's a good-natured, soft-hearted person"
Well. on the night of February 14th he intended to kill someone behind a closed door and, by his own account, he didn't care who was there - that's not very "good-natured", is it? .....

It seems that the whole Pistorius family and their team of publicists and lawyers don't or won't accept that the man is a "ladykiller" - next, we'll have pictures of him with helpless babies and puppies .....

I've already surrendered to the fact that he will be found innocent. so i'm already letting go of this case. I don't think it's right, but i'm not going to allow myself to get emotionally invested.

Thumbs down Oscar Pistorius agent: 'Paralympian would be welcomed back to the track ...

http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/world-n...d-back-1795045

Quote:
Oscar Pistorius would be welcomed back to the track despite facing a murder charge for killing his girlfriend, his agent claimed today.

It is understood organisers of the London Anniversary Games in July are uneasy about inviting the double-amputee to Britain, while agent Peet van Zyl described reports he could compete in the World Championships in Moscow two weeks later as “jumping the gun”.

But van Zyl said the South African star - dubbed the Blade Runner - would not be short of offers if he decides to return to the international athletics scene.

Pistorius’ legal team last week won a court battle to allow him to travel Van Zyl said: “Once he’s ready and he feels he’s up for training again we will have him back on the track.

“I think the World Championships, realistically, is a bit jumping the gun at this point in time, but you never know.

“He’s a world class athlete and if he does compete again this season and achieves a qualification time then obviously that is something that one would have to consider, but I think it’s a bit early days to make that kind of comment.

“I think if we look at Oscar and also athletes in general that’s where they’re the happiest people - when they’re on the track, training or in the gym. So, maybe it might be a good thing for him.

“I have received emails from various meeting directors showing their support and condolences for Oscar and wishing him well through this tough time and they hope one day to see him back on the track.

“When the time is right we will approach competitions and I’m sure there will be guys out there who will be willing to have him back out on their track.”

Critics say such a move before any trial would be disrespectful to the memory of Reeva Steenkamp, the girlfriend he shot and killed in the early hours of Valentine’s Day.
It seems that Pistorius' "people" just don't see him as a "killer" and are not even considering the possibility of conviction and a jail sentence .....

Lightbulb Pistorius D-day for track return

http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage...the-track.html

Quote:
OSCAR PISTORIUS’ agent has insensitively claimed rumours of a return are “jumping the gun”.

Peet van Zyl used the phrase amid suggestions the runner may compete at the World Championships in Moscow in August.

Van Zyl said: “People are jumping the gun. Maybe he will start training after the trial or he will never train again.”

OSCAR Pistorius will sit down tomorrow and decide when to get back on the track.

Van Zyl admitted that Pistorius had NOT been training since the shooting but insisted: “If he qualifies for Moscow, and then on the basis of innocent until proven guilty, he will be free to run. We will sit down on Tuesday to talk about it.”
Pistorius is not "innocent", he's a self-admitted killer who denies deliberately blasting his girlfriend with bullets .....

Lightbulb Skidmark contradicts witness statement: Carl Pistorius defence

http://www.timeslive.co.za/local/201...torius-defence

Quote:
A State witness's version of what happened in a 2008 road accident in which Maria Barnard died was questioned by the attorney of Carl Pistorius, brother of murder-accused Oscar Pistorius.

"The real evidence shows that your verbal evidence is improbable," Kenny Oldwage put it to motorbiker Anton Coetzee in the Vanderbijlpark Magistrate's Court.

Coetzee responded: "I hear what you are saying, but I cannot agree."

Oldwage: "Why is it so hard to concede that you are wrong? Mr Coetzee do you confirm that this [photographic evidence] does not support your evidence?"

Coetzee conceded it did.

Oldwage presented the court with photographs of the accident scene taken days after Pistorius' bakkie and Barnard's motorbike collided in 2008.

Coetzee recalled the events that led to the accident on March 27, saying there was nothing Barnard could do to avoid bumping into Pistorius who had "suddenly swerved".

He said the bakkie was halfway over the white middle-lane and the bike hit the bakkie's tail-light.

Oldwage put it to Coetzee that according to police and the photograph, the skidmark from the motorbike was 18.3 metres long, showing that Barnard did try to brake.

He said this contradicted Coetzee's version that the accident happened too fast and that there was nothing Barnard could do.

Oldwage accused Coetzee of being selective in giving evidence, pre-empting, and being dishonest.

"Mr Coetzee, you are toying with my client's liberties, you are under oath."

Coetzee said he would not comment when Oldwage put it to him that the motorbike was travelling "at no less than 147km/h".

Pistorius, dressed in a black suit, sat in the dock occasionally making notes, looking at his phone, and at the photographic evidence on the white board.

Henke Pistorius, father of Carl and Oscar, was present in court.

His sister Aimee, accompanied by other family members, arrived shortly after 9.25am. They sat in the front row with family members and friends in the second and third row.
Based on the evidence so far, this court case seems like a waste of time and money .....

Lightbulb Oscar Pistorius photographed training by high school students

http://www.guardian.co.uk/sport/2013...ining-students

Quote:
Oscar Pistorius has been photographed back on the athletics track – by a group of school hockey players visiting a university campus.

Charmaine Koekemoer, director of sport at Voortrekker high school, said there was excitement in the school bus on 24 March when the pupils spotted Pistorius at Pretoria University.

"None of us are in any doubt. We saw Oscar training," Koekemoer told South Africa's Witness newspaper. "As we drove past on our way out on Sunday at 10.15, one of the kids screamed: 'There's Oscar!' As true as Bob, there he was."

The pupils took pictures with their mobile phones and quickly distributed them on a mobile messaging app.

On Thursday the Paralympian's agent, Peet van Zyl, confirmed that the photos were genuine, but told South African media it was not an "official training session", adding: "He said he just wanted to get a feeling of putting his legs on again and having a bit of a jog."
Well, keeping fit isn't a crime .....

Thumbs down Oscar Pistorius' agent confirms athlete is running again

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worl...ing-again.html

Quote:
Oscar Pistorius' agent says the paralympian's return to competitive training is imminent and that he is considering several upcoming international running events.

"It's still very tough on him for the sad loss he's suffered with Reeva's tragic death, and I think that's going to be most important part for us to work through, is to get him eventually focussed and ready for training," said van Zyl.
From the way the agent talks, you'd think someone other than Pistorius killed Reeva Steenkamp .....

Thumbs down Oscar Pistorius to get the all-clear to run at the IPC World Athletics Championships

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worl...e-in-July.html

Quote:
Oscar Pistorius, the double amputee who faces a murder trial in South Africa, is to be given the all-clear to compete at the International Paralympic Committee World Athletics Championships in France this summer.

Telegraph Sport has learnt that an internal report circulated within senior ranks at the IPC, the world governing body for Paralympic sport, has cleared the athlete, who is accused of murdering his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp on Feb 14 at his home in Pretoria, to run at the event in Lyon in July.

It is understood that Peet van Zyl, Pistorius’s agent, will be notified that the athlete will be free to register for the event, either for South Africa, or as an individual. The belief within the IPC is that Pistorius should not be stopped from competing before his trial.

If Pistorius were to target the able-bodied IAAF World Championships in Moscow in August, the IPC championships would be an ideal staging point for him on that journey.

His next court appearance is June 4, though the trial is expected to continue into next year.
"Ladykiller" Pistorius (or his agent, "Percent" van Zyl) obviously wants to make hay while the sun still shines .....

Lightbulb Pistorius 'deeply disturbed' by 'Steenkamp-deserved-to-die' comments from fans

http://www.dnaindia.com/sport/182159...ents-from-fans

Quote:
Paralympic champion Oscar Pistorius has said that he is ‘deeply disturbed’ by comments from some of his fans, saying that his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp ‘deserved to die’.

According to Pistorius’ family spokesperson Anneliese Burgess, Pistorius was furious when he found out about a group of his fans on Twitter calling themselves the ‘Pistorians, who were making those comments, and ordered a statement to be released condemning them.

According to the statement, Pistorius expressed his concern at the comments, stating that they were disregarding the ‘profound pain’ that Steenkamp's family and friends are going through.

Burgess further said that Pistorius was very upset when he found out about the comments, adding that the ‘Blade Runner’ mourned for his girlfriend everyday.

The statement also revealed that Pistorius has been spending time with people close to Steenkamp.

According to the report, the ‘Pistorians’ have virulently backed Pistorius's claim that he shot Steenkamp on Valentine's Day after mistaking her for a burglar and have even criticised Steenkamp's family and the 29-year-old model's behaviour.
With Pistorius' "personality make-over", by South African PR firm Vuma Reputation Management, in progress , the last thing he needs is fans like that .....

Exclamation Pistorius goes out partying

http://www.news24.com/SouthAfrica/Ne...tying-20130414

Quote:
Johannesburg - Murder-accused paralympian Oscar Pistorius was seen enjoying a few drinks on a night out, the Sunday Times reported.

Pistorius was seen arriving at a party at Kitchen Bar restaurant in the Fourways Design Quarter in Johannesburg last Saturday, according to the report.

This was the first time Pistorius, who has been charged with murder after his girlfriend law graduate Reeva Steenkamp was shot dead in his Pretoria home on 14 February, was seen out in public.

Pistorius family spokesperson Anneliese Burgess told the Sunday Times that it was the first time the paralympian went out with friends but left the Kitchen Bar when "public interest became overwhelming".

Default Oscar Pistorius 'strenuously' denies 'downing drinks and flirting'

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worl...-flirting.html

Quote:
A spokesman for Pistorius dismissed as "sensationalist" the report in South Africa's Sunday Times that quoted several witnesses as seeing a "relaxed-looking and talkative" Oscar at the Kitchen Bar in northern Johannesburg last Saturday.

The paper said many of the restaurant's guests were shocked to see Pistorius, 26, who is out on bail while he awaits trial for shooting Reeva Steenkamp, walk into the private area at around 9pm, accompanied by a male friend and several bodyguards.

"He was drinking shooters and he was flirtatious. He didn't seem like someone [who had] lost the love of his life," one unnamed woman was quoted as saying.

"He's the last person we expected to see," another guest reportedly said.

"I can't believe he showed his face in public, carrying on as if nothing's happened." The same witness claimed Pistorius flirted with several women. "He was greeting a couple and then gave the woman a little pat on her backside. It was just so inappropriate," the guest told the paper.

Anneliese Burgess, the Pistorius family spokesman, told the paper that the Saturday night he was seen was the first time he had been out with friends.

"For Oscar, it was a way of trying to reconnect with friends of his and Reeva's – and these were the people he was out with," she said.

She added that he "strenuously and vigorously denies any inappropriate behaviour towards any people or women present, or 'partying it up' with shooters".
Not the image that his Reputation Management wanted to circulate .....

Arrow Oscar Pistorius will not compete in the London Anniversary Games

http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/disability-sport/22163917

Quote:
The Games include a day of Paralympic sport, but UK Athletics chairman Ed Warner said Pistorius will not race.

"I don't want to see the Sunday of the Anniversary Games turning into a media circus," Warner told BBC Radio 4.

"It would overshadow every other athlete that was there.

"It's not about innocent or guilty, it's about how you handle an individual with a difficult moral situation hanging over them.

"Anything might change, he is in court before then, but based on what I know at the moment it would be a no if he rang this morning."
Good for Ed .....
