Default The Voice 2013 UK criticised for featuring so many 'fallen stars'

The Voice 2013 has been criticised for showcasing too many so called ‘fallen stars’.

The BBC one show has only seen two audition episodes but already a lot of the hopefuls have been known to the viewers.

Amongst the stars to have gone before the panel so far are Soul II Soul singer Kym Mazelle and 90s hit maker Kavana.

And appearing in future episodes will be the likes of Hear’Say singer Danny Foster and Cleopatra’s Cleo Higgins.

One viewer asked online: “Is The Voice obliged to have an faded popstar on every audition show?”

Another wondered: “Why was Kym Mazelle on The Voice?”

And a third joked: “It’s like the BBC have taken series two of The Big Reunion from ITV.”

One ITV insider took the chance to use the criticism against the rival show, saying this month: “Why anyone would want to watch former stars is anyone’s guess.”

They added: “These shows should be about finding a star out of the blue not resurrecting former pop glory.”

However, while many past chart toppers have auditioned, none of them have made it through so far, somewhat embarrassingly.

Coaches Jessie J, Will.I.am, Sir Tom Jones and Danny O’Donoghue seem to be focusing on new, fresh talent.

Yeah they are over doing the has been factor a bit, I guess because they don't feature any terrible singers like X Factor does they need to sneak in a bit of humiliation another way

Anyone can apply. I don't see the problem here to be honest.

On the subject of no terrible singers, it'd be pretty funny if they got some on this show. Perhaps you could have the coaches facing the terrible singer and once all four of them press the button and their chair turns away from them the audition is over?

I disagree, it's what I hate about X Factor, I'm glad the producers sent through only the decent singers

I don't know I like it, I got so fed up with the Theatrics involved with the X-Factor I just had to stop watching. I got a fierce turn against Simon Cowell in the last couple of years

Thats cuz you're so used to the amateur dramatics of X Factor. The voice is a hit all over the world cuz it attracts contestants and an audience who have a genuine passion for music. But not apparently, in this country. We seem to want non stop entertainment and histrionics for some reason.

If the voice is not a success then it doesnt say much for our taste in or passion for music. For the country that belives itself to always be at the cutting edge of music to reject a true talent show cuz of a lack of staged dramas would show us how fall we done fell.

I can understand that but as I've never watched X Factor as a music show it's not really bothered me. It's an entertainment show first and foremost and a talent show second, I think when people realise that it's not as easy to get annoyed at all the theatrics and stuff but I totally get that some people don't want that anyway, people have just got to understand that it has always been an entertainment show first and the talent has come second

The problem is that TV audiences by and large want entertainment, that's what you primarily watch television for, a show needs to be somewhat entertaining to capture your attention and offer the viewer some kind of escapism. Nobody would watch soaps if there were no murders, rapes and dramatic storylines and everybody got along all of the time, no one would watch a drama if no one was killed or there was no love story or other similar plot (it wouldn't even be a 'drama' then really), and as I argue every year on here, no one would watch Big Brother if there were no big characters with big storylines going on.

Viewers want entertainment, they want stuff to talk about. The Voice works as a niche show for genuine music fans but as a mainstream primetime entertainment format I don't think it's there yet, not in the UK at least. It's doing fairly well but there still needs to be some tweaks, though of course we're yet to reach them in this series so we'll see how it goes.

Agreed but I, personally, dont see what is so entertaining about the X Factor. So much of it is contrived I find myself watching only the performances, not the judges comment. I know I'm in the minority here but I would not mind if X Factor never came back and the Voice became this country premiere talent show.
