Default Developmental Delays

Did you have any? Late walking and talking ages, etc, you know?

I didn't talk for ages and when I did I had a speech impediment. I have poor motor skills too.

I think I've always had a problem with my social development from the time I was very young.

I'm sure that's just to do with your own style rather than any real deficits.

I was really early with everything like talking, reading, walking, etc but then I kind of peaked and now I'm way behind everyone else in everything. I can't ride a bike, drive a car, or grow any facial hair besides a pretty douchey pencil beard.

oh and this. Essentially put your fingers and thumbs in a huddle and that's how I hold a pen.

a lot of it has to do with when your birthday is, because depending on your birthday, your parents can choose to start you in kindergarten at 5 or 6. My parents chose to wait til i was 6 to put me in kindergarten, but most of my classmates were 5. So I was always a little bit ahead of everyone else developmentally.

It's not always a cognitive thing alex, it is something to do with primitive reflexes I think.

i was one of the youngest, i was born in november so a lot of people were nearly a year older than me.

also, i was too attached to my mum when i was little. but tbh thats her fault because she didn't tell me anything about kindergarten. I was just plopped there having no idea what it was. and this was after never being away from her cause she was a stay at home mum.

so i never learnt much because i spent most of it crying.

Awwww. that must have been horrible.

I was used to leaving home during the day because I went to daycare before kindergarten. Both of my parents always worked. So i was already used to the routine of going away and interacting with other kids. It must be much more difficult for kids who have only ever been at home when they start school.

I think sometimes as well it can depend on your siblings...

Some first children are really quick as their parents can spend an awful lot of one to one time of learning through play but when a second, third etc child comes along they haven't got the time to solely dedicate to one child. A lot of siblings have very special bonds and older siblings tend to "talk" for the younger ones. Although I know that's but always the case, I idolised my older brother as a child and copied everything he did so I was quite quick but my two cousins were much different...the younger one barely spoke till he was 4 as his sister was a chatterbox and spoke for both of them. In the end they both had to see a doctor in order to encourage the younger to come on on his development.

I agree social interaction is also a pretty big deal.

Development delay and academic prowess are two different things. Developmental delay is when you don't reach your milestones at the "normal" age, ie rolling over, sitting up, crawling, walking, speaking,

Why are you quoting me? Do i know you? You don't need to quote me to make your point. You don't need to single me out and put my posts in your posts.

I'm quoting you because you mentioned that development delays had to do with what age you started school. I can edit my post and take your post out if it will send you to bed happy?

and no Alex you don't know me, I didn't realise we had to have been introduced before I could quote you mea culpa :
