Will and Hannibal are much more alike than Will knows. Hannibal sees it but Will is a bit too wrapped up in his 'powers'. Its strange that Will and Lector are friends; in the original novel they didn't meet till Will realised Lector was the Chesaspeake Ripper.

I agree their personalities are similar and that's why their friendship is so fascinating to watch. Will is always walking a fine line between good and evil.
