Part of me thinks Marcus knows he if they ever made him stop doing the narration, the show would feel different, so he in a way has a monopoly on the position. He can probably demand (within reason of course) to do the introduction/housemate intros/countdown, and they have to agree, because he is so synonymous with the show.
