He didn't need to use tactics (and out himself as a desperate gameplayer) as he'd been saved anyway by the public.

He did what he could with the information he had. He played it smart and frankly it probably would have worked if Michael was a real housemate. He hates Sallie.

It's a game of survival and Dexter proved he is willing to do what he can to survive. While you say he will be isolated, he will be in the game to fight another day, one of Sallie or Gina won't. All that matters.
