My guess would be a stroke (a non sex based stroke!

) or a heart attack or something, Charlie rushes in to hold wobbly/fainty looking grandparent, grandparent falls on Charlie and dies!

I could be completely barking up the wrong tree but that's what came to mind instantly for me.
