Which begs the question: why do so many people have so little sympathy or empathy for Callum, given he also is in there 24/7.
24/7 being the house whipping boy.
24/7 being whispered about and made to feel bad for every little thing: the tone of his voice, the way he washes up, the look on his face, etc etc.
Worth remembering too that since everybody else is in there 24/7 it is very easy to get swept along by a powerful character like Dan into seeing everything Callum does as a problem. Very easy in that pressure cooker environment for minor irritation to spill over into outright disdain and dislike. Very difficult for anybody to claw it back from there.
Anything Callum does now (and this has been the case for a few weeks) is viewed through the prism of irritation and mistrust. If he is nice, he's too nice. If he stands up for himself he's being fake...because it doesn't gel with the 'nicey nicey.'
Dan is largely responsible for that atmosphere. He had the knives out for Callum over the nomination. He had the knives out for Wolfy because she wouldn't share her cigarettes with him (showing no understanding of just how horrible she would find it to be without, as an addict, whilst he was claiming not to really need them).
Don't get me wrong, I liked Dan. But he has a bullying streak. And people listened to him and took that on board. because they were with him 24/7
