Ziggy was a potential winner who was going to coast on his Posh and Becks-esque showmance but didn't realize until it was too late that he was in a relationship with someone who belonged in a mental asylum. Chanelle walking hurt his chances as much as it hit hers, a necessary sacrifice for BB8.

But I mean people supporting Ziggy in spite of his casual sexism/homophobia isn't all that shocking given that Caroline is A Bloody Legend apparently (despite having no backbone and not being able to handle any confrontation in a Grace way) in spite of her not so casual racism.
