Watch it again. For one, past the point where it's obvious what they're talking about, there are several breaks in conversation long enough for her to speak up. Secondly, she hasnt had any problem, in the past, butting in to make her point even when it was just her opinion - why would she not butt in in this occasion to state a FACT that could have nipped the whole thing in the bud?
Thirdly, again, microexpressions! Watch her face after she sits down. She realises what it's about quickly and then its pure calculation on her face - how best to play it to her advantage.
And finally... Even if all of that is wrong... Was there really NO point in the evening for her to set it straight? She deliberately let it play out through the whole night only to say something first thing in the morning, after the damage was done, but soon enough to save face (incase the public thought she really had seen mummy).
