You're so right about that. The worst I found when pregnant was complete strangers touching my bump...I have very strict personal space issues yet people in queues would think nothing of touching my bump without asking. ggrrrr. I probably would have been judged quite harshly for punching a pensioner though so I would smile sweetly and move back (not easy when you are roughly the size of a small elephant)

"The fact I am pregnant was none of his business. I appreciate a bar’s management reserve the right not to serve customers but obviously I wasn’t drunk or misbehaving or under 18 - so he had no reason not to serve me."

Acknowledging he had the right to refuse service but not compelled to share the reason why.

"I am not some Vicky Pollard-type binge drinker."

Banker, demonstrating she feels a somewhat superior and is a bit of a snob. Although if you put that to her, she'd probably be so outraged she'd start an Internet campaign to let everyone know how aggrieved she is.

Had to laugh at that.

People do seem ready to make public complaints for very little. A letter to the bar to explain how offended and embarrassed she'd felt really should have been enough (if that).

I think if you take any lesson from this thread it should be that.

So did he provide the woman with an alternative bar tender? No, he refused to serve her and offered her no alternative.

Also, Doctors don't refuse care on moral grounds.

I'd also suggest that we agree to disagree here. Reply to this post if you see fit, but we're both going to go round in circles.
I agree that we're just going in circles, I don't think there's a misunderstanding just a fundamental disagreement so best to leave it at that .

...however, just for information's sake, it is possible for a patient to request a treatment if they have researched it for themselves and feel it is the right course of action for them, even if said treatment is "controversial", and individual doctors CAN refuse to provide that treatment if they disagree with it, and will refer the patient elsewhere.

You're right that he should have done that if at all possible, although it's possible he was the only staff member on duty. Better still, he could have moved away from the serving area and quietly asked another staff member to serve her, without informing her at all. However it does sound from the bar's reply, and indeed from the original story, like he might have been young and lacking in customer service experience... so, either way I feel like the pregnant woman has made a mountain out of a molehill here.

Just a little pub on the highstreet, we got people coming in from shopping for one on their way home and stuff
