Maybe 'bottle' is the wrong word then, but it's not often you see people disagree with them,I'll leave it at that

Maybe not on the forum, but we get a lot of PMs from members who are mature enough to realise that causing a ****storm in public is not the best way to go about things and that they most likely end up banned themselves for doing that.

Infact, most infractions that get reversed and stuff are because of people being mature and discussing their problems with us (without insulting us), rather than going mental and whinging on the forum about it.

..there's not always anything to disagree with though, I think most of us see ourselves when something is offensive/personal...

Well you're obviously wrong here because I don't dislike MMI at all, we watch a lot of the same shows and we can discuss things together. Being a MOD isn't like a full time job y'know I can detach all I need to but when theres an obvious remark or a build up of things somebody does then they're always going to get infracted/lead to a ban banned.

No ,I didn't really mean stuff that's offensive and personal(we do all see that),just in general on the threads.

I don't understand why so many people on this forum have this incessant need to fight with each other. If I have a problem with someone in any aspect of my life I just try and avoid coming into contact with them where possible and being civil whenever I have to talk to them.
I don't really consider myself one of the members that has major issues with anyone on here and tbh I do agree that the feuds people have on here at times is really bizarre and petty, but the problem is that when an argument between these groups develops and is then stopped, the problem is still there, it isn't going away. Yes it's just the internet and these people should probably grow up a bit, but they're not going to...I just think if they were given an opportunity to truly say how they felt without having to watch what they say, then it could go on for as long as necessary until they all either realised how ridiculous they were being and laughed it off, or just mutually decided to avoid each other.

I'd say there's probably...two (maybe just one tbh) members on this site that I'd say I think badly of, if I could just tell them exactly what I thought of them, they do the same back to me, we talk it over for a bit and then be done with it, I think the problems would be over.

The three strikes I think you mis-remember One warning was an instant ban, 2nd after that was a longer ban, and third was permanent. We had another system running alongside that where members got ministrike thing against them, to let other mods who might not know history and stuff know if the member was a serial troublemaker or not..which helped decide if a warning was justified. Also IIRC, other members could see if someone had got a warning fo a post..which helped with the cries of 'X gets away with everything, bias' etc that we have now

I dont think half the members would be gone at all. think people would stop pushing their luck like thy do at the moment. And if people cant control themselves, then I think the forum is better off without them anyway
The PM thing is fine and would absolutely suffice and the idea of a no holds barred forum could be scrapped, but the problem is rules still apply there so you end up in a situation where say a member could send you a PM telling you exactly what they think of you, insults and all, and you'd be like okay that's cool fine, and you respond with the same kinda thing, and then they go and report it? That's not exactly fair or solving the problem. With the exception of racism, homophobia, insults about appearance...the usual stuff, if people were allowed to say exactly what they wanted over PM and truly batter out their differences, then yes that'd be perfect and would resolve a lot of problems I think. On the odd occasion I've discussed issues with other members via PM it has worked, but I'm talking about the members on here that have serious problems with each other LOL

But there's nothing stopping people from doing that right now - the issue isn't that the moderating team clamps down on people's ability to argue things out - the issue is that people aren't interested in resolving their conflicts, they just want to take public snipes at each other and hope that the moderating team will infract the other person to somehow prove how right and justified they are in picking fights with the same people over and over again. There are so many pairs of users or groups of users who are guilty of this, it's always the same people arguing with the same people - if they wanted to deal with it like adults, they would. They don't want to deal with it like adults. They don't like each other and they want everyone to know it. Having a thread where they can show it off is just going to feed their egos, it's not going to resolve anything.

People could PM each other if it's a two person conflict; or they could hold a group chat on another website if that was something they wanted to do - but they don't want to do that at all.

...hmmm, I'm not sure exactly what you mean..do you mean not disagreeing with a mod in a debate topic..?...all I mean is that, maybe that's because does agree with their points and nothing to do with them being a mod...we all 'connect' more with people we are more like minded with, isn't that so of life...and the fact that they're a mod is irrelevant...I don't think I've ever seen anyone 100% agree with anyone else on this forum, whoever they were....I can see that if someone didn't particularly like that member, they may think ughhh, they're just agreeing because it's a mod, but that wouldn't be the case, that would just be through 'their eyes', which are based on their own feelings about people...is that what you mean..?...

..but why does it have to 'go away' Jack...the reality of it is that it probably won't go away, there will always be some personality clashes and that's our of the mods or forum's control, it's not their responsibility to worry about that...that's between those members themselves to sort out if they want to and privately...but I personally doubt many people can discuss things while they are still emotional about something, it's usually better to take a step back and think of your own part in it because very rarely in an 'argument' situation is something one-sided...

..yeah, I agree people are 'bothered' by different things, but that's not what the forum is being moderated by, it's only when someone reacts to something, which may not have been a rule break by insulting/getting personal etc that moderating action is taken....

That's true, personally I'm just speaking in generalities, right now things are more or less fine as far as I'm aware.

I'd get rid of the swear filter for most words (considering the things that Big Brother has aired the occassional expletive shouldn't be too bad)

This 3 strike warning system would only send the forum further into mortuary mode.

Getting rid of the swear filter is top priority, it serves no purpose. When I type the word '****ing', you still read it the same in your head. You know what it is, no nice little asterisks are going to change what word it is, which makes the entire thing pointless

I don't mind the swear filter. I think maybe tinych_t could come off the filter now though

this forum is no different than real life, its not what you know but who you know.
that's just the way it is.
I don't have a problem with the mods or rules.

...ahh, ok, Kaz...but I think we all generally see the same things though, if we're online of course because those are the things that happen/the 'facts' as it were... only people for varied reasons will see them from different perspectives...because there are always 'many truths'....

..anyway, I have loads to do and I've put off doing it for long enough, so I think I'll leave the thread now...
