..with respect James, I think it’s equally as likely to ‘drive people away’ when they’re constantly feeling that decisions are being made about things that have been ‘tradition’ for a while and that they’ve enjoyed and by an admin that doesn’t seem particularly interested in the forum unless it’s to ‘take something away’...maybe if members felt that this was more of a MOD decision because they were against it and felt it caused too much trouble/hassle, because they do know the forum..then it would be easier...but yeah, you’ve made your decision ....so I don’t really have anything else to say...

..and this is from someone who never even votes in them but can definitely see that balance is needed and the Razzies gives it in a more structured way than it being more ‘spread out’ and seeping through threads....

It saddens me that one of the forum's longest running award ceremonies (perhaps it's the longest running? I'm not sure) has become a scapegoat. The Razzies have always remained a light hearted thread designed to poke fun at antics on the forum. They have outlasted all of the forum's dramatic episodes because the people involved in those situations either got over it or stopped logging into the site. This has always been the case - the thread itself is not the issue, it's the members who attach a negative stigma to the thread that are the issue.

I think it's blatantly clear that the same small group of users who just cannot resist having a dig at each other will continue to find ways to do this regardless of whether the Razzies exist or not. In the case of the Razzies, this will manifest itself in several ways: by making a huge statement about opting out; by intentionally nominating things that will piss certain people off; and by making snide comments about the two aforementioned things on the night of the awards.

None of that is the fault of Matt or the Razzies Awards. The blame lies squarely with those users who just can't let their problems go. It's the exact same problem that dogs the Most Loved thread every time I run it - 90% of the forum enjoys it for what it is - a chance to learn a bit about people you don't know and to celebrate all that's good about this place and the people who use it. 10% of people like to turn it into a slanging match by taking the opportunity to make snide comments about others. I wouldn't be surprised if it isn't allowed to go ahead either because Most Loved is also turned into a scapegoat every time this happens.

Structured? It's a bitchfest simple as, the guy gave his reasons so no matter how it's justified or dressed up the fact is it isn't happening.

And it's only a bitchfest because the same people can't stop fighting with each other all the time. It's only been seen as a bitchfest in the last year or two because of the same trivial **** that 90% of the forum userbase has no opinion on nor cares about. D'you know what my reaction was when I won a Razzie last year? I laughed and enjoyed the thread. I didn't take it personally because it's an awards ceremony that pokes fun at forum characters.

As someone who completely misunderstood the Razzies last time and opted out of them, I have to say I wouldn't have opted out this time.
well after it was over,I read most of the event and found it overall to be really humerous and in the main good natured, even with people not happy because they didn't even win the less 'nice' categories.

I was actually looking forward to it this time round.
Certainly from all I read as to it, far worse happens even on just general threads and topics.

It is just my opinion but it is clear that is really popular with some members who have been involved with it for years, so for me, I would like to see it happen definitely,if any change of mind is at all possible.

Sounds like a laugh, I was looking forward to it aswell.

But what's done is done I just think it's fruitless arguing about it otherwise this will gain another 10 pages of squabbling in 1 night and give people a good reason to get rid of most loved aswell.

I don't beleve that... from what I've seen an heard it's nothing more than a forum witch-hunt.
Good for you that you laughed zee, as james said not everybody targeted takes it so lightheartedly... I thought you out of most would be able to understand that?
I'm not being made a scapegoat either here, so anyone thinking of laying any blame at my door don't.

"targeted"

This is exactly what I mean Kizzy. The only reason it's seen like that is because of **** that most of us don't care about. It was never about "targeting" anyone until people with a vendetta made a song and dance about it being so, and I think that's reflected in Joeysteele's response - a bunch of people were misled and then realised that actually, the Razzies aren't this full throttle fight to the death arena that some people were making them out to be. It is not a forum witch hunt.

Don't get me wrong, I understand why people wanted to opt out, because they didn't want to be targeted. I get that that is what the status quo has become now on the forum. But it's only that way because a handful of people can't resist making digs at each other.

I haven't been here long myself reece, but that's how I saw the razzies reading through past threads and speaking to those 'awarded'.

I understand that fair enough, what I'd do with that would be to say if someone's opted out their names are not to be mentioned again whatsoever and consequences would be to follow if someone was to keep flogging a dead horse and bringing up opt outs.

Basically just sick of going into threads that existed long before certain forum member issues and finding out that the threads are the ones to be deemed the problem when the problem is with the people, not the threads.

Misled?... How was joey misled.
The razzies have gone on for 6yrs zee. Are you seriously suggesting I manipulated the whole forum against the razzies?
You contradict yourself by saying some are targeted...I know they are all I've done is point that out.
It happened before I was a member and it still happens.

I'm in favour of the razzies but I do think some threads bring out the worst in people.

For instance if I made a thread titled 'what characteristic don't you like in people' I would eat my hat if it wasn't shut down or mineswept by the time it hit page 3.

That's not to say I think the Razzies does because like I said I've never seen it and was looking forward to it.

Well, that didn't happen.
That started the 'some people' comments... 'some people' are killjoys 'some people' are trying to ruin everything 'some people' shouldn't be allowed to view the razzies!
What that meant was, we're furious we can't stick pins in you so we'll do it indirectly instead.
This is only my view understand, I'm not speaking for anyone else.
It's how it appeared to me at the time.

Aah, hi Kizzy,I don't think Zee indicated I was misled, I said I misunderstood the Razzies and that was why I opted out last time.

Having seen the completed event, I thought it overall full of good humour and it was my choice to opt out but I would not if it was done this year.

It is good to laugh at yourself at times and get some less than positive banter but it was my own fault that I misunderstood the Razzies, I feel Zee only meant that maybe others too had misunderstood them from what they had heard as to the Razzies from likely many others possibly not just one person.

I opted out and never again went on the thread again during the event, I only glanced through it once the Razzies were all finished and done after a good while later.
As I said, I found them really humerous and was looking forward to them this time round.

Most things bring out in members, as I am sure you will likely agree with this too, things they agree with and things they don't.
The good thing is on most things, if we don't want to be part of something we can say so and opt out as I did last year and indeed as some do even in the Most Loved poll too.

Misled was perhaps the wrong word to use, I meant that he misunderstood what the Razzies really was because of all the negativity surrounding it, due to people opting out and hyping up just how awful it was supposed to be, when really it's intended as a tongue in cheek award ceremony to remind everyone of the funny and embarrassing moments over the past year.

I don't think it's your fault Kizzy, I never said that. In fact as far as the current state of affairs goes, I put the blame squarely on the bickering between the same small group of people (and all distributed evenly, I don't believe anyone is more to blame than anyone else), which then created the "opt out" phenomenon, which then fed back into the constant bickering between the same parties who cannot give it a bloody rest. I quite honestly do not give a **** about why you, Jesus and Glenn are all so determined to snipe away at each other in every thread on the forum because I like you all individually and I think you're all fantastic contributors to the forum but it just really pisses me off to see the Razzies take the flak when the real issue is not a forum awards ceremony that is based on the real life Razzie Awards but the people who cause the drama surrounding it. It's madness to suggest otherwise, in my opinion.

I don't think I'm being at all contradictory and I really didn't want to name names because it's probably going to cause more aggravation which isn't the intention at all. I'm fairly confident I speak on behalf of most of the forum when I say that none of us care why you three constantly pick fights with each other, all I really want to see is the Sports forum get worst sub forum again, is that too much to ask
