Are we saying that we know all the answers and have a definitive book on the laws of the universe and that we know all the technologies that there are.
It may well turn out in 50 to 100 years time that another Einstein comes along and proves the first one wrong a bit like our Einstein proved Newton wrong. He or she may produce new theorems which show faster than light travel is possible and advanced races may have already developed technologies to transport themselves over these long distances.
Just because we can't do it doesn't mean it can't be done.....!!!!!

Who's to say that there are even vast distances to be traversed for them to get here.
Modern theories by well respected physicists about multiple dimensions could mean that they didn't have to travel any distance at all.
Earth might be their home planet too. (and maybe they aren't very happy with what we're doing to it)
