Default give us a lift Ben - should every rail station have disabled access ?

give us a lift Ben 24.04.14

not to far from the station
the best hospital in the world does rest
you can now visit with no frustration
it has passed the Ben test.
i want to thank
but i do also have beef
because any denial of access is a skank
into London underground and rail operators goes my teeth.
we can put a man on the moon
we can even in the sea go deep
now my anger is starting to balloon
i believe no access is a excuse that's cheap.
pull out your finger
adapt and with the law comply
because your betrayal is starting to linger
i am so hurt, i could cry.
do it faster
this is a urgent must
because if someone is evading the barrier master
you would not let them gather rust.
equal to all commuters then
get a move on with a shift
the one we need to thank is Ben
and hopefully one day every station will have a disabled access lift.

should they be providing that help ? i feel yes when they are quick enough to take our money for tickets and every year put them up saying they have costs to meet.

agree, WH even the new station at Stratford upgraded for the Olympics is not fully accessible, pretty disgraceful.

Many stations are well over 100 years old and the cost to upgrade them would be prohibitive. Likewise, how can you make somewhere fully accessible to every single person with every single access need just in case one of them ever wanted to use it? I have a friend with cerebral palsy who is an Access Officer. She accepts that sometimes, the cost or the logistics involved prohibit making everywhere fully accessible. In any case, I think London Underground and British Rail staff do their level best to be useful when someone's in need of help with access.

Staff aren't paid to carry people about. Profits should be put back into making everywhere accessible to all if possible.

i think thats quite shocking - seen as like i say - we seem to be able to do a far lot more. a bit of planning and reconstruction and things can adapt and so they should.

as for kizzy - i am not asking for every consideration to be taken into account just the fact of if someone has a walking difficulties they should be able to use a lift and this can be for a wheel chair user as well.

why should they have no right.

Have you been on the Tube lately? Have a go at rush hour... it's packed, you can't get a seat, it uncomfortable... and in order to put on more trains they'd have to raise the already high ticket price substantially. It's all very honourable putting disabled access into every Victorian building at an extortionate cost, but who's going to pay for it? Passengers are already overcharged.

Perhaps you need to go back and re-read what I said if you really have to question what I'm saying. It's in very plain English.

They would have to spend a lot of money just to make the Tube fit for purpose for the people who already travel on it.

There isn't much money left to make hundred year old buildings totally disabled-friendly.

Some stations are totally unsuitable to be upgraded to enable disabled access.

I would LOVE LOVE LOVE every disabled person in the country to have full access to every single station. Likewise, every woman with a pushchair... but we don't have the money to do that.

Is that clearer?

No. But I'm going to make a wild guess that if they're on the Tube at rush hour, they got on at a station that already has disabled access.

How do you know how much money is or isn't available, and who are 'we'?...

London is one of the most expensive public transport systems in Europe and yet we still expect disabled workers/travellers to use "certain stations", I am sure some of the vastly over inflated ticket price money could be used to upgrade at least some more stations, maybe not all but certainly some more. The government are going to spend billions on a high speed link to the midlands, there is money in the pot.

I was just trying to make sense of your comment livia, I wish you would stop telling me how and where to post it's getting tiresome.
