could recycling and food waste be responsible in the rise in vermin - i smell a rat 09.05.14
this is a joke i get comfort from this story with the council i will poke because it is going to progress faster then a Fari. over the years we have reduced save the earth is at the core so less service's were produced rubbish and waste would spore. we were all given buckets several over a period of time outside our doors were the brackets "none willing" was perceived as a crime. with it now piling food would decay and build only rodent's were smiling we gave them a open field. the food now had variety offering it by the kilo and not the gram the "green brigade" is the high and oh mighty these must take a heavy slam. we need 2 weekly collections give the food waste a bat and if anyone has any objections i will clearly say recycling has made bigger the rat. ( http://www.camdennewjournal.com/lett...d-plagued-rats i can not help but feel the cut in rubish collections and us constantly having waste and buckets outside our flats - houses - doors have all contributed to the rise in vermin. or am i blowing this out of proportion and the rat and vermin problem is a minority and as a "country" we must do even more to recycle our food waste - paper -etc does the reader smell a rat ? ) Last edited by waterhog; 09-05-2014 at 09:24 AM. |

I agree the rise in the number of different types of rubbish bins sitting outside our houses coupled with the reduction in the frequency of collections has resulted in an increase in vermin in our neighbourhoods.
Often these bins have rotting or uneaten food lying in them for weeks at a time , is it any wonder foxes , rats and other vermin are attracted to these bins.

I don't necessarily blame anyone, I would guess rats have always been around.
However I cannot really see where doing away with regular food waste rubbish collections can not have some impact as to more rats and other problems occurring. I do think myself food waste/rubbish needs to be collected on a weekly basis and that should never have been changed. |

Maybe we just need to produce less waste.

I agree, the amount of food that is thrown out these days is scandalous, a lot of it comes from having freash food sold in Supermarkets as BOGOF (Buy one get one free) or BOGOHP (Buy one get one half price).
People don't really want this extra food and a lot of it is on or near to use by date so inevitably it ends up in the bin.

I havent noticed a rise in rats..infact I dont think I have ever seen one
However the bin men round here sometimes just randomly miss bins. And unless you are willing to pay Ł15 per 6 black bags to be taken away outside the bin collection...you just have to wait for the next collection (2 weeks time) so rubbish sits out a lot longer. I suspect this could cause a problem. |

Just be pleased the rats are using protection Arista. We don't have the finances to support a huge boom of unwanted rat babies.
