It's a 3yr clinical trial involving 12-14yr olds... Let the arm flailing commence.

They're just hormone blockers, if it's decided that the child changes their mind about going through with the transition then they can just go off the blockers and go through puberty as normal, I don't get what the big deal is.

um because you have hit the nail on the head with the word "child". People are being denyed life saving drugs because of the NHS trying to please everyone and not having the money in some crucial areas because of it.

I wanted to be a unicorn, but I was never offered drugs to help me grow a horn and an extra pair of legs

Lets just say there is a 9 year old child, mentally the child identifies as a boy and is externally in a female body. This child knows that once he enters puberty things are going to happen to his body that he feels should never happen to him. What if he began menstruating and couldn't handle it, what if he even became suicidal? Puberty is beginning earlier as time goes by. Wouldn't it be better for that child to have the choice to delay these things that would happen to his body while he is going through therapy and is maturing. If he decides at 15 that he's better off living as a woman he's able to do that, but if he knows that he is truly not mentally female, he has the choice to go through male puberty with the aid of testosterone. It's as simple as that.

I honestly don't mean to sound harsh though I know it comes across that way, but I fully believe you need to be an adult to make life changing decisions such as this.

When you put it like that its very logical but there are all sorts of issues that come into play and like others have said I think 9 years of age is too young to make such a life changing decision and even if it is reversable physically the psychological issues that may go along with it may not be. The NHS deny life saving drugs to many cancer patients due to lack of funding. Also depending on where you live in the UK you can get better treatment than in others.

The fact that it's reversible is irrelevant IMO.
Because then you have the problem of a complete waste of money and resources on a fad or a phase. |

Plus it might not actually be as reversible as they think...my mum has been on tablets for a few years now to try and induce the menopause(she had a kind of cancer that feeds on hormones, so it was to prevent it coming back)..which I figure is kinda similar to this but the opposite? She was told they should work within the first year..but 3/4 years later, still nothing. All the side effects, but hasn't actually done what its meant to

Yes sorry my post wasn't clear there, I think the feeling is that these feelings of confusion are easier to deal with prepubescent.
Once puberty hits then the change will be harder and more traumatic, so this is buying time perhaps, the trial being a success shows that it seemingly is more beneficial than the treatment currently available perhaps?

..I am a bit torn about this tbh but my main worry is that there is concern over brain development, bone growth and fertility through these drugs so it feels as though children are being 'experimented' on with some very possible severe consequences....
