I think when it comes to what actually makes a series good then a laid back attitude is better IMO. Because not all of the elements are ultra important to making it entertaining. Whereas the quality of housemates is a must because they are the show.
BB8 had a nice eye design, great graphics but it didn't make the series any better for me.
BB2 and 3 had pretty bog standard graphics, nothing great design wise yet I loved that series and they were two of the best.
