How would you even know who has advanced knowledge of the artists they dislike and who doesn't though, are you just assuming?

Seems like you are making a big deal of a simple thread for no reason really..

I made a simple comment that I think is relevant and I'd say I was under attack now. 'I dont like opposing opinions', I'm making a big deal of a simple thread? How the hell did we get to that? Have your opinion cuz trust me I honestly couldnt give a rat ass who you like and who you dont like but I stand by my main point. I think its unfair to list an artist as one I dislike that was before I was born. That is all I am saying. So why dont you two dial it down a bit?

Dial what down?

That is simply what's happening, you don't like that people are listing bands such as the Beatles so are suggesting it's because they weren't born in that era to appreciate it. Or as of your last post, because they haven't listened to them. Which is daft.

It's simply music that's popular that you don't like. Legacy, history etc doesn't come into it.

No one's attacking you, I simply couldn't understand why you were overcomplicating a simple thread.

Dial down the 'I dont like opposing opinions'?? Where on earth did you get your inspiration for that comment?

Lets discuss that. Forget the Beatles and music. What are you trying to imply?

Because you're suggesting posters are listing artists that they've never listened to, where did you get evidence for that exactly?

Statements like that just gave the impression you didn't like the opinion so are using excuses to disregard their opinion as invalid because they're younger.

So younger generations who are big Beatle fans can't list the Beatles as their favourites either because they weren't around in their era?

Youve made all kinds of assumptions here.

^^^ What is the point of this post if you weren't referring to posters in this thread? Who is listing artists they have no knowledge of?

But why do you need "advanced knowledge" of impact to judge whether you enjoy an artist's music?

Like I said "impact" is an entirely separate subject to the question in the OP.

You dont but if you list an artist who made their name before you were born as one you dislike then IMO if they are as influential as the Beatles then you need a good knowledge of the impact of their music to make that judgment.

Thats my opinion. If you dont agree then thats up to you. See I don't mind people disagreeing with me at all so you were totally out of order going down that route.

Right, so who in this thread has made a judgement without knowledge?

.... of their impact.

Any one who was not born when they made their name.

We've been over this already.

You don't need to have been born or around in the 60s to know about the Beatles impact.

And you don't need to know about their impact to know whether you enjoy their material or not, we've been over this.

You're taking it in circles so we'll end it there.

And IMO you cannot appreciate the impact if you were not there.

Maybe. But it is contrary to the thread topic.

You can appreciate an artist's impact and influence and still dislike their music. I can't stand Madonna, but her career and influence cannot be disputed.

The word overrated annoys me. Dislike anything you want, but unless you know all the ins and outs of something you can't really claim it's either too lowly or highly rated.

Jay Z would be mine. His music does nothing for me. Find him quite dull.

tbf I don't love MBDTF. For whatever reason it doesn't really connect with me.

808s & Heartbreak was his last really great album imo. Nothing beats it when you're feeling down.
