That's quite a lot of assumptions to make based on something as simple as the phone one has. Is there a reason you're so angry about it?
I have one, but not because "I need the latest gadgets", because I intend to keep it for a good long while if it remains in useable condition, I love it, it's perfect for me and I don't see the need to replace it. Even though a newer model has recently been released. Sure, it's fairly recent as far as phones go, but it's not "the latest gadget".
I'm also not materialistic. I have the phone I have because it's fun. I don't walk down the street waving it around like it's a trophy.
And yeah, my life is not empty. Even if it was, I'm pretty sure a bloody mobile phone wouldn't change that.
I think it's ironic you gloat about how you're not materialistic, don't feel the need to impress people, etc, yet refer to people on benefits with a derogatory term like "doleys" (despite knowing nothing about individual circumstances), etc. That's pretty damn shallow, itself. You might not need the latest phone to feel good about yourself, you need to put others down instead.
PS: I agree that
some people are materialistic and shallow in regards to phones, having the latest things, etc, but you're generalizing every single person with a Smartphone as being part of that group, which is way off.
