In general Aldi stuff is good value and quality - they are budget but not crap. For many peeps this is good value and right on time for the World Cup |

I don't think I'd buy a supermarket TV for downstairs, maybe for a bedroom

So by this logic... I'll go buy an Aldi TV as opposed to a branded one from Tesco as it's cheaper? Last edited by Ryan57; 02-06-2014 at 02:47 PM. |

"Lot's prefer 720p over 1080i. Thus making your argument invalid."
No thats you 720p is well out of date. Which is why Better Stores sell the current top 1080P Full HD TV's 4k TV's , at this time , are well out of most of our price ranges and we have no 4K broadcasts yet. Last edited by arista; 03-06-2014 at 07:39 AM. |

This post is so full of flaws, it's ridiculous. Luckily, it appears nobody on this forum intends to buy this TV. Last edited by Ryan57; 03-06-2014 at 12:13 PM. |

Is 1080p better than 720?
Certainly 1080p is better (if you mean from a video quality perspective it's higher resolution) than 720p, but perhaps they are talking about 720p vs 1080i. For sports or fast action 720p is usually better because with an interlaced signal (1080i) the two halves of the image that make up each frame can be slightly out of sync, and while the image is technically slightly higher resolution (1080 vs 720 lines) it's less clear. Furthermore interlaced video is prone to a type of annoying video artifact called twittering ... see link. Finally many displays don't do de-interlacing very well. Keep in mind that image quality isn't just a matter of resolution. Contrast, color saturation and color accuracy are actually more important ... but in theory apply equally to a 720p or 1080p image. So ... almost always 720p video is "better" than 1080i. While not directly relevant, consider that the degree of video compression used in the signal (particularly true for broadcast TV ... and a major reason why some HDTV broadcasts look better than others ... but also potentially an effect on DVS or Blu-rays) can mean that a compressed 1080p image would look worse than a less compressed 720p image. That said, 1080p isn't widely available for HDTV and Blu-ray is almost always 1080p and has to be down sampled to output at 720p. source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Interlaced_video |

But, but, 1080 is a bigger number than 720 is a bigger number...
And resolution is the be all and end all when it comes to choosing a television set... Last edited by Ryan57; 03-06-2014 at 04:26 PM. |
