So then you admit that the football could be the cause of the ratings being down?

Yeah but ratings are still down.

Channel 5 are stupid for even putting it on against the football. They could easily work around the schedule and put it on at 9pm but for some reason decide to air it head to head giving BB no chance.

It would of made sense to start airing in July after football had finished. BB used to start in July and finish in September back in the first few series I believe plus it would have given viewers a longer break since CBB.

What is this a court of law? LOL

Ive said that a million times.

I said in this thread if you go back and read that people may have chosen to watch football this year instead as investing in 2 shows is a bit much.

That's just 1 theory.

But for people saying its down because its up against the football every night are wrong because it does not clash with it every night.

But then you have the problem of the second CBB of the year running through to October and leaving very little gap between that and January CBB.

Why would they never do it?

They are 100% more interested in CBB as it gets so much attention and far more viewers for them.

I wouldn't be shocked if they cancelled the regular BB now. I would have been years ago but not now.

No it's not a court it's a discussion..you were accusing Sam of posting nonsense when what he suggested is definitely possible, in one comment you are saying no the football can't be responsible for the ratings drop then you are going back on that and saying they are responsible now you have denied again.

The world cup is probably the biggest reason the ratings are down IMO.

Oh no for me i split every series in half allways have done, Housemates/and how its run, you know graphics taks big brother voices, allthough i think theyve improved this year theres still alot to be done.

But what you have to question is how did the benefit show get 2m+ and bb got 1.2m makes no sense.

What Sam was saying wasn't right, BB has not clashed with the football everynight That's what I was getting at.

Its not a "discussion" when you are using the words "acusing" "denied" "you admit" for god sakes lol what im saying is right.

Ive said the football has effected it but also people may have just switched off as even when the football is not on the ratings are still down.

I don't know why you cant seem to understand an opinion that isn't one sided or simple.

Sam wasn't saying "its definitely possible" he was saying it as fact and it isn't a fact.

To be fair with votes, I bet they have raked it in this week given the anger against Pauline!

Ah fair enough. It's still not too bad. Obviously any loss is not good but BB still shows it has a strong amount of viewers around the 1 million mark. I guess when we reach the end of the series it will be clear whether these ratings are killing the show off or keeping it steady still.

This has been on my mind for months. I was assuming we were going to hear something at the end of May/start of June. Worrying that no news has come. I guess either the Viacom deal is interfering with that or they're waiting to see how this series does. Big Brother has hardly been dying on C5 so it would be strange if they did not take the show further.

Will it? Putting so called "celebs" in the house who are desperate for fame is pretty much the name of the game now for CBB and BB.

Getting rid of live feed and making it more and more like Towie has destroyed the point of the show.

I was sad to see BB go in 2010 but I actually wouldn't care all that much if it ended this year. I can just about muster interest for a 3-4 weeks CBB, it's getting more difficult with the main show.

Oh right, production and casting.

BIB - Just shows how little interest BB garners nowadays.

I understand what you are saying, I don't want them to axe it but I wouldn't be that sad, I would still like it on C5, I still enjoy the show tbh

To be fair it's got less Towie since BB12

That's false. According to BBspy, last years overnights is 1.48m, and its overnights average after 2 weeks it was actually less than 1.4m.

This last week the overnight average of BB15 has been around 1.3m, so it is 100k down on BB14... oh, and the last 2 nights have beaten the equivalent of BB14.

Since Monday, 1.4m, 1.2m, 1.4m, 1.3m. Three of the four are higher than BB14. With ratings like this, we are looking at 1.6-1.9m officials.

The ratings are not bad at all, they are currently better than BB12-BB13 and are creeping up on BB14 now.

The majority has been down it may have picked up the last 3 or 4 days which is brilliant I don't want it to fail as some people may think.

Those ratings though are just you rounding them off seeing as we have no no plus 1.

Don't know why they haven't been released, I hope the officials include them and theres a big increase. I know BB14 did well in officials so maybe this year will be the same.

I don't recall BB14 being 1.4 in the first fortnight though I thought it was more 1.6 then 1.8/1.9 officially.

C'mon Salv even you have said how poor some of the ratings have been and it takes a lot for you to admit that lol.

BB ratings are fine!!

The officials are pretty much level with the first officials of last series, with a difference of only around 80,000. Remember, we're still in week 2 and this is possibly the most competitive season of TV with the world cup.. yesterday the show attracted 1.3 million, if you include +1, +24, HD, Live Streaming on the app and third party sites, Demand 5, Lunchtime repeats and 5* repeats, it's pretty much certain that figure will grow several hundred thousand...

It's very pessimistic to assume BB will finish because of a week of low ratings, what do you expect, I'm certain the producers are aware of this, otherwise they'd wait a week or two to air it until smaller matches in the World Cup begin. Channel 5 put BB in direct competition otherwise the channel would quite literally be obliterated, and even so.. the episodes are attracting near enough the same numbers as they would without the World Cup.. it's still making a good profit for the channel and it's still well above the average percentage share, in most cases it's almost DOUBLE!

Face it, BB doesn't aquire the ratings it used to of 3 or 4 million, granted it struggles to hit 1.5 nowadays, but what everybody seems to forget is the target audience. It's targeted at YOUTH. And in advertisement, YOUTH targets are the most important as they are the most who are more likely to spend disposable income on their products. Therefore it works out much better than many other channels, such as ITV and Channel 4, whose target market at the 9-10pm slot is typically somewhat older than 15-30s age range.

It's the channel's flagship programming and each year the ratings improve. Civillian BB continues to grow at a rate of near 100,000 new viewers each series, meanwhile CBB is attracting near 200,000 (minus the summer series, which due to low ratings often dip more than the winter editions, but are still vastly improving in ratings)

BB is a staple of Channel 5, British TV and British culture and there will always be a targetable market to make money. If ratings are poor, the producers will find ways around it, such as in this series, simple changes such as removing the news section and sweaty Box on BOTS and making the house design more simple, using commerical items, not one off, designer products.

BB is hear to stay, ratings yes are low at the moment but it still regularly hits Channel 5's most watched shows of the week, typically 6 out of 7 days.. furthermore, it's almost always rated at 3rd out of the main 5 channels, something which Channel 5 almost certainly never did before it aquired the show.

Sorry this is so long to read, but I got awfully fed up of the bad news surrounding ratings. It's true, but not to the extent of cancellation, now if anybody can be bothered to read this MASSIVE post, I acknowledge you dearly!

Rant officially over!
