Well the conversation started off with her saying something along the lines of...'People out there will be wondering why you even speak to me' something like that.
Maybe she felt he had a right to know so he can make a decision about her without coming out of the house and finding out from the papers or from someone else.
I think it was the best/nicest thing for her to do tbh.
