You've just proven Jack's point I think. Sam winning shows he was a big favourite with viewers, but you wouldn't really think of him when you think of the main stories/events of that series.

So a fan favourite does not automatically mean they were the "star" or main contributor to a series.

I will admit that I might be able to appreciate Helen ironically if she didn't have her pass. Like, she would've gone in, been extremely belligerent in ways we couldn't believe, be evicted around the same time as Pauline, get booed and OFF OFF OFF chants and feces through her letterbox with "THIS IS FROM JALE" attached, the whole nine yards. Unfortunately, Helen still has her pass to the final (despite the fact that the producers don't care to dismember literally every other twist this series) and we're stuck with her for much longer than anyone would've bargained for. She's reigning over the house like a tyrant, expecting everyone to ingratiate themselves with her and her clique of dickish boys and that's not fun for me to watch at all.

Helen is the core of the power structure in there and it's really sickening. Your social standing in the house is directly related to your relationship with Helen. You either have to get in with her clique (which Jale and Kimberly resorted to eventually) if you wanna have an ostensibly good time, or you'll just have to wander around by yourself with the other nonconformers. Now this is getting into more of The Ashleigh Thing, but she realized that she can't do **** to Helen so she's resorted to taking out her followers like she should (an Ash eviction, which is long overdo, would completely throw Helen off her rocker.) Helen can simply just clash with Ashleigh and encourage her entourage to nominate her and that's how she'll deal with it (and that's how she has been dealing with it.)

Everything's just incredibly static with Helen's stranglehold over the house. She's here until the end (as far as we know) and nothing can be done about it. And worst of all she's been BORING lately ("boring" in the sense that she's not shrieking in people's faces about being ALWAYS IN THE RIGHT ALWAYS IN THE RIGHT ALWAYS IN THE RIGHT ALWAYS IN THE RIGHT) so I don't get why a small vocal minority is still attached to her for being A Big Character. She's ****ing Aaryn Gries at this point, an objectionably awful person for the first 3-4 weeks and then boring afterwards. Those are the worst kinds of people.

She ruined it for me. Her gobby mouth constantly backtracks and the vileness she spews towards housemates who didn't do a thing wrong. The fact that the other bully, Pauline, picked her makes me mad.

She's part of what's ruined it for me but it's more complicated than that. He being in the house as a housemate, fine. I dislike her but I appreciate that she would have made a good housemate under normal circumstances.

What's ruined it is Helen having a "pass to the final". I don't think it's added anything at all, it's been entirely negative. It was an awful idea. I think the producers even realize that by now, but it's far too late.

So, to be honest, it's the shambles of a production that's ruined this series. It's just an incompetent mess. I don't even mind reality shows having a manipulated narrative - but if you're going to have one, at least make it a GOOD one... not this bag of demented kittens. Pass to the Final is only a part of that... although, a significant part.

I feel housemate nastiness is sometimes romanticised by people, I've never really found it to add much. I don't hate Helen, I don't love to hate Helen, I just feel she overpowers everyone with general unpleasantness. It's not fun to watch, it makes a lot of housemates uncomfortable and it has, at least for me, entirely ruined this series.

..I read it all and it's a brilliant analysis, Macie..Helen has provided a lot in drama/arguments in the past but she's also taken away a lot and that's the psychology for the audience/fans in that a 'controversial' housemate at some point can be up for eviction and the public can vote and feel all the apprehension and excitement of the eviction night..that's BB's fault though by giving her immunity...we need to feel that a housemate can go/that it's possible because that's a big part of what has been built into BB for us..
