A chav is a term coined by the media to lump, label and stereotype working class people as all being a part of a culture which is violent, workshy and ridden with alcoholism and drug abuse. In answer to the OP's topic... yeah... Helen and Conor are two sides of one ignorant, loud-mouthed coin. Note that Conor was also very loyal to and defensive of his friends... and also not shy about speaking his mind... two things that people have celebrated in Helen

Nah, the "council housed and violent" thing was invented to fit the word after it had been in use for ages, council housing has nothing to do with chavviness. A lot of chavs actually do pretty well for themselves (50k+ incomes), usually in trades / building etc.

Boy Racers are (all) chavs... many of them have cars worth 20k+ and often they'll be in trade apprenticeships and will end up doing pretty well for themselves financially.

Money doesn't really come into it... in fact... some of the chavviest clothes / "bling" / gadgets etc. are effing EXPENSIVE!


Now... I'm aware that Helen grew up in a middle class household... but, I feel it's important to point out that there are LOTS of chavs born of middle class parents. It's a strange phenomenon, but not an uncommon one.
