Council housed and violent.
A chav is a term coined by the media to lump, label and stereotype working class people as all being a part of a culture which is violent, workshy and ridden with alcoholism and drug abuse. It's demonising and demeaning and has been made popular by politicians and the elite alike in an attempt to trample on those who are deprived of the most and lack the necessary means to better themselves

Can people please stop throwing this term around it's offensive and ignorant

I quoted you because you attempted to define what a chav was, I was correcting you

I know other people have used it, hence why I said 'can people please stop throwing this term around'

Chavs are people who live in council houses? No, that's not the definition.

No, you think you defined it but you didn't. You attempted to by wheeling out a popular misconception and as such got it wrong. Do some reading and then you'll understand why my explanation is correct

I'm from Ireland I'm not a genius with English lingo but even a quick google search will show you it means what I said.

I know. I said you were the first to use the word "chav."
The member was annoyed at us using the term completely.
But yes you were spot on anyway.

wrong. It's more aimed at the lazy workless underclass.
