He tends to come across as ordering Gary about and that is not good to see.
The shower incident, well that to be fair wasn't a bad thing to do, others were on about that behind Gary's back,(something I hate to see).
So for James to get him to shower was a good thing.
He also was there while he did so in an odd way he is looking out for Gary but in a dominating way most of the time.

He is however, full of his own self importance, with little reason I can see for it. He doesn't come across as particularly pleasant at all unless things are all going his way.

James tries to belittle Gary and makes fun of him behind his back. The freak statement was just awful.
On this occasion Gary was telling him Stephanie said other Hm's hated him(i think that is what she said) and James just told him a couple of things that were annoying people but he did it in a helpful way rather than his usual talking down to him and Gary took it all on board.

I dont like James at all, he is very condescending and full of himself. He is very quick to take offence but cant see it when he is doing it to others, it a joke then.
