Surely it is not beyond the competence of a Home Secretary, even one as bad as Theresa May is, and the PM of the day to appoint someone who has absolutely no connection to the period or the leading Politicians of the period too.
What an absolute farce of bad judgement has come from both the Home Secretary and PM as to this. |

Its actually more difficult than you would imagine. To have a big enough profile and experience to be acceptable for the job, the person would need to have been around for a while, and then its highly unlikely they will not at some point have come in to contact with someone potentially involved in the case. Really difficult one I would suggest.
