![]() DIsclaimer: these events all take place at random times in a three hour window on the same day the characters arrived in Centralia. If any of the survivors are the Killer, their 'story' may be intentionally erroneous so as to cover their tracks. "...do...do you know these people?" Bella fretted, pointing behind her to the dead bodies her and Reuben had just discovered. "Why would I? You invited me here," Reuben backed up, a little bit affronted by Bella's accusatory tone. "Maybe they were hit by a car". "Oh, right, because there's just so much traffic around here - hang on," she pulled a cell phone from her pocket, and began texting someone. "What are you doing?" Reuben went to snatch it, worried they'd get blamed for this grisly discovery. He was unsuccessful. "Carl will know what to do," she smiled. "What's Carl got to do with this - isn't he waiting for us down the road?" Reuben pointed towards the sign for Centralia - or what he assumed was a sign for Centralia - a hundred yards or so away. ![]() Bella grew frustrated in the middle of her text and decided to ring Carl instead. Reuben, exasperated, and a little bit panicked by the whole situation, decided to run down the road and look for help in Centralia. He came to a churchyard and found nobody, but saw some old couple peering through their home's curtains at him and decided to be bold and knock on their door. As soon as it opened, Reuben had a strong whiff of sulphur - like someone inside had been striking matches all day - and saw that the couple were wearing gas masks around their necks. "Excuse me, sir, ma'am, but my friend -" Reuben remembered he'd left Bella behind on the phone with further panic - "we were in the woods, and we found these kids in the bushes-" "Hush, now," the woman placed her hand on his shoulder - it was terribly cold, he thought - and she handed him a gas mask. "You'll be needing that, son," the man smiled sympathetically. "Go find that girlfriend of yours and get away from here, you hear?" the woman stared into his eyes, "there's nothing in Centralia for you." "But, they were dead-" "I know, sweetheart, I know. It's the fumes. People who come to Helltown should prepare for burning," she smiled calmly, as her husband closed the door in his face. Reuben looked down at the cold, black gas mask in his hands and tried looking around for whatever it was these shut-ins were protecting themselves from, and in his head he thought he could see some mist on the horizon, but all that could really be seen were isolated streets and trees blowing in a light breeze. He remembered Bella, and sprinted back up the main road into Centralia, to a rough whereabouts of where the bodies were, only to find she'd gone missing. In her place, he saw a boy only a year or two older than himself, walking down the road ahead of him. "What do you know about my sister?" he pleaded, as he shoved Reuben against a tree. |
