Default Although Viacom said they wanted less BB and for it not to be the focus of Channel 5

With ratings like these i'm pretty sure they have no option but to dramatically change that plan.

Channel 5's Railway: The First Great Western gathered 664k (3.0%) at 8pm, while Britain's Bloodiest Dynasty attracted 514k (2.3%) at 9pm (108k/0.7%).

Ratings on the channel have been embarrassing lately.

They obviously don't want to take over channel 5 and just rely on BB. They'll try new things of their own to shake the channel up too.

Pretty pointless if they take over and just rely on the previous programmes.

Obviously but I thought new programming would have started by now.

The changes ive seen so far is more documentaries which are hitting under 1 million. People are saying they have only just taken over so give them a chance but surely after paying so much for a channel they should have had their scheduling and rebranding in better order by now.

As it stands Channel 5 seems to be in limbo and running on repeats while people wait for them to organise themselves.

BB is their hit show though so them kind of bashing it like they did wasn't very reassuring to fans, you don't see ITV bashing The X Factor.

Why post something on your title that
is Out of Date
and not valid

They didn't bash it. They simply don't want a 14 year old show to be the main focus and the main pull of the channel. That's fair enough IMO.

What are you talking about the title is a reflection on what they previously said and since that statement the decrease in ratings on the channel.

Your comment sucks.

Most channels would never put their highest performing show under scrutiny and Viacom said that they didn't know how long BB would be on the channel.

Wen they are only just taking over the channel it doesn't really give people high hopes for the shows future.

They said they are going to see how it performs and that will determine wether or not they continue with it or give it the axe.

I get what your saying but even though what they are saying is fair enough I don't really think they should put that negativity and uncertainty out there. You would never hear ITV put one of their shows under fire and open it to negative press.

Anyway the point I was making is that the channel is doing very poor at the moment and when CBB pulls in almost 4 million viewers surely bosses will be creaming over that, confirmation of this actually is their recent decision to extend it to 5 weeks after saying they wanted less BB on the channel.

How is it not valid?

You seriously have no idea what you're talking about.

Go look up the word valid in a dictionary.

ITV always do it with X Factor. It gets the press talking in some way = attention = higher ratings.

As much as I like Big Brother, it shouldn't be their priority. Instead of focusing on Big Brother which only airs in January, June, July, August and the first week of September, they should be working on improving their line of programming outside of Big Brother.

These documentaries that are being shown are likely to have been commissioned and filmed while Desmond still had control. They're currently commissioning new programs which will start rolling out soon. They need to try and capture audiences with new and fresh ideas. Big Brother can only attract a certain audience, and if Viacom want to increase their reach - they'll have to branch out further than BB.

From every piece of news we have had from the boss at Viacom they are not putting they're main focus on BB.

They have a whole channel to run remember so your opinion goes against every official bit of news from the horses mouth we know so far.

I do agree with you and as a channel they defo need to find new programmes for an all round audience.

I hope they don't get caught up in the CBB hype and run it twice a year like Desmond did I think they should make 2 epic series a year 1 extended celeb one and one full length civilian.

Give people more live feed and extend eviction shows to 90 minutes.

Im looking forward to seeing if there is a massive change to the channel because I love some of Viacoms other channels. I hope they bring a lot more comedy and I would welcome more reality aswel tbh.

Didn't South Park used to be on Channel 4? I reckon in needs to come back to one of the main channels.Could be Channel 5's Family Guy.

My thread wasn't to say Channel 5 needs BB or NEEDS to run it into the ground it was just a point that looking at their current ratings and comparing them to the ratings they are about to get, when saying other programming will be exciting and draw in new people in their statement they may well get drawn into the BB hype. They will have to be pretty strong minded to stick to that statement and not give special treatment to a show when they start getting attention from all the papers, money from votes and triple their usual ratings.

It will probably take a good 6 months or so until we see any big changes to C5, a lot of shows are planned months in advance so a lot of what's on now will still be from Desmond owning the brand.

I think C5 would really benefit from something like South Park. A big comedy show on late at night. They could do with creating interesting documentaries too. I think they could do with targeting the teenager market, which is something E4 and C4 have slipped with these past few years.

If they really want to target the teen market Teen Wolf would be perfect in an 8pm slot aswell.
